As the Manager of Market Risk, you will rely on your expertise in analyzing market trends, assessing risk exposure and risk management strategies. Your experience of the North American power market will pay a crucial role to identify and quantify market risks related to commercial and trading activities. You will play a crucial role in growing and expanding the Market Risk team for a growing Renewable Energy organization.

Job Summary:
Urban Grid is seeking a Manager, Market Risk who will be integral part of a growing team of Energy/ Trading Backoffice professionals reporting to theSVP, Finance. As the Manager of Market Risk, you will rely on your expertise in analyzing market trends, assessing risk exposure and risk management strategies. Your experience of the North American power market will pay a crucial role to identify and quantify market risks related to commercial and trading activities. You will play a crucial role in growing and expanding the Market Risk team for a growing Renewable Energy organization.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain risk models for complex transactions within the physical and financial power markets, including PJM, MISO and others
- Evaluate the basis risk, price risk, and generation risk associated with merchant resources in relation to potential Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) opportunities
- Assess the risk profile of our power portfolio, encompassing derivatives, futures contracts, and physical assets
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of Revenue at Risk models, including conducting stress tests and performing attribution analysis
- Review capacity trading strategies to assess risk profiles
- Collaborate with the trading and finance teams to implement hedging strategies to mitigate exposure to volatile energy prices
- Monitor trading activities to ensure compliance with policies, guidelines, and established limits
- Stay informed about relevant market developments, including price volatility, price correlation, changes in market rules, and shifts in supply and demand dynamics
- Establish key indicators to monitor the effectiveness of risk strategies and Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs)
- Review proposed transactions and provide recommendations for appropriate risk mitigation measures to the trading and asset management teams
- Present quantitative analysis results and risk reports to Front Office functions and senior management
- Review and validate valuation models created by the Front Office and Finance teams as needed
- Other duties as assigned
- Degree in a quantitative field such as economics, mathematics, engineering, physics or other related discipline
- Professional designation such as FRM, ERM or CFA will be considered an asset
- Minimum 5 years of experience in energy trading and risk management environment is required
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and programming languages such as Matlab, Python, VBA or similar
- Advanced analytical and mathematical skills combined with advanced knowledge of numerical/algorithmic methods
- In-depth knowledge of financial derivatives, options, and futures, and their application in risk management
- Strong understanding of the North American physical electric system and markets (preferably PJM and MISO) including energy, transmission and capacity
- Strong team approach; ability to work with different teams in the organization
- Able to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and to adapt quickly to changing priorities
- Strong attention to detail and focused on achieving high quality results with the organization's standards
- Capable of conducting research on various topics and acquiring essential knowledge and skills independently
- Excellent written and oral communications skills
