Job Description:
The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and detailed cost estimates for various civil projects, including roads, bridges, highways, and water treatment plants. The role involves analyzing project plans, specifications, and other documentation to determine material, labor, and equipment costs. The Estimator works closely with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure that estimates are comprehensive and align with project requirements and company objectives.
Project Pursuit:
- Road and Bridge Projects
- Underground Utilities
- Wastewater / Water Treatment Plants
Responsibilities:
- Lead pursuit teams in preparing and submitting competitive and accurate bid proposals.
- Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates, including takeoffs for labor, materials, and equipment.
- Analyze market conditions, competition and pricing strategies to owner.
- Evaluate, quantify and calculate various types of risks in the project.
- Collaborate with internal team members and strategic partners to secure projects that meet company criteria.
- Establish strategic partnerships with clients, contractors, and vendors to build Urban’s brand.
- Analyze bid documents to gain a comprehensive understanding of the project.
- Maintain and utilize historical cost data to assist in securing new work.
- Ensure the accuracy and maintenance of various estimating databases.
- Assist was development, maintenance and accuracy of assemblies
- Lead and mentor junior estimators, engineers & project managers.
- Represent the company at industry events as needed.
- Develop and improve processes to enhance the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of the estimating department
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in mathematics, statistics and data analysis
- Proficiency in estimating software such as HCSS Heavybid and takeoff software like BlueBeam and Planswift.
- Experience with scheduling software such as P6 or Microsoft Project.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and time management skills.
- Report writing and strategic planning skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Office.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
- 7 years of experience in heavy highway construction industry.
- At least 4 years of estimating experience
- Travel when required
- Must have a valid driver's license.
