POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Junior Maintenance Worker (Building and Grounds)

REPORTING RESPONSIBILITY: Director of Operations/ Managing Director/ Maintenance Manager (direct reporting officer)

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Junior Maintenance Worker (Building and Grounds) position plays a vital role in maintaining the building of the facility. The Produce Company is dynamic fast paced environment. We are looking for self-motivated individuals who can work well independently or in a team environment.

PART-TIME/FULL-TIME: Full time

EXEMPT/NON-EXEMPT STATUS: Non-Exempt (Hourly Pay)

Urban Leaf, dba The Produce Company is a food-processing facility based in Tracy.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Daily:

· Maintain and perform minor repairs of all scales throughout facility prior to start of production

· Setup equipment under supervision of Maintenance Senior Tech. This needs to be done prior to the start of production

· Perform visual inspection of lighting throughout facility and make repairs as needed

· Perform visual inspection of all refrigeration coils equipment. Report ice buildup and any fans not working properly

· Check all vinyl curtains throughout and repair and/or replace as needed

· Inspection of facility checking for leaks, rust, etc. Report and/or repair

· Inspection of attic for leaks, cleanliness, etc

· Replace wheels on production carts

· Drill holes on drums for dryers as required by production

· Move furniture, boxes and equipment as necessary

· Any other duties as assigned

Weekly:

· Perform general building and grounds maintenance and minor repair activities. Including cleaning boiler pads, refrigeration racks, electrical rooms, and equipment areas

· Assists maintenance mechanics and/or contractors with building projects and maintenance including carpentry, electrical, masonry, drywall, mechanical, plumbing, painting and mechanical trades

· Performs general maintenance and care of grounds. Performs weed abatement. Makes sure all holding ponds are free of debris

· Repair and patch floors throughout facility as needed

· Service cardboard bailor

· Clean and maintain roof top equipment and gutters

· Maintain and lift trucks, pallet jacks, and carts. This includes maintaining batteries, greasing, wheel replacement and cleanliness of equipment.

· Any other duties as assigned

Monthly:

· Inspect and fill eye wash stations as needed.

· Perform Ladder inspection and audit.

· Any other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift, transfer, push/pull, maneuver, and reposition up to 100 lbs. or more.
  • Ability with withstand frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, lifting and reaching
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions, including rain, and extreme temperatures
  • Ability to withstand cold temperatures, fumes/odors from food waste
  • Work frequently requires high physical effort requiring above average strength and stamina
  • Personal Protective Equipment such as safety glasses, dust masks, and site-specific gear will be required while performing tasks
  • Ability to work from a ladder/ in tight spaces.

ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Warehouse environment, noise level may be moderate to high
  • Exposure to production area environment
  • Exposure to consistently wet floors in the production area
  • Frequent exposure to outdoor conditions and variable temperatures, exposure to especially high levels of cold temperature within the production facility
  • Exposure to dust and other possible irritants around the job site
  • Exposure to OSHA regulated hazardous materials and chemicals.
  • Frequent exposure to noxious odors from arisen from onion processing

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

EXPERIENCE:

· Minimum of 6 months to 1 year in a maintenance or construction field related to job duties.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS and KNOWLEDGE

· Must have effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to follow essential job procedures and supervisor instructions to ensure goals are met
  • Stay organized at work; Maintain daily Reports and Material ordering
  • Ability to adhere to company scheduling requirements
  • Must be courteous and respectful with ability to adhere to the Company’s Policies and Employee Standards

Desired Qualifications:

· Basic knowledge of plumbing practices.

· Basic knowledge of building materials and/or machinery parts.

· Safe and effective use of hand and power tools.

· Knowledge of plant safety practices including LOTO.

· Basic knowledge of electricity.

· Bilingual

· Food processing GMP’s
