SUMMARY:

The Finance Manager is responsible for all financial record-keeping and reporting aspects of the Urban League of Middle Tennessee (ULMT), ensuring the organization's ongoing fiscal compliance (GAAP and TN Uniform Reporting Requirements), and overall fiscal sustainability. This position also requires creating and implementing financial processes and controls that ensure accurate records and reporting. The Finance Manager works with staff, board members, and public and private organizations to support the work of ULMT under the supervision of the CFO.


Job Duties and Responsibilities:

·      Coordinate and direct activities within the accounting department.

·      Manage the organization's financial resources and conduct resource planning for future needs.

·      Prepare the operating and program budgets with input from department managers.

·      Prepares monthly financial reports, reviews budget variances with the CFO, Executive Director, and department managers, and presents the information to the board of directors. Prepare budget forecasts and cash flow projections if warranted.

·      Responsible for all agency financial operations to ensure accurate recordkeeping, including the timely posting of all journals and ledgers and processing receipts and disbursements.  Reconciliation of balance sheet accounts. Ensure allocations follow the established policies (such as required supporting documentation) before processing.

·      Maintain separate accounting records for each program/grant. Maintain familiarity with grant-eligible expenditures and report program financial information to grantors on a timely basis. 

·      Monitor year-end program closings to ensure program compliance for the expenditure of funds.

·      Oversee the fund accounting financial CRM software operations, maintenance, and security.

·      Responsible for ensuring compliance with OMB circulars, state and federal grant requirements, agency policies, and record retention procedures.

·      Prepare and submit the indirect cost allocation proposal with the appropriate granting agency and update it annually.

·      Work closely with an outside CPA firm to prepare work papers and provide records for the annual audit and tax return.

·      Reconcile all bank accounts promptly and monitor agency cash flow.

·      Oversee the timely and accurate submission of all federal and state payroll taxes, benefit premiums, retirement contributions, and worker's compensation premiums.

·      Oversee all corporate insurance coverages. Review and retain leases and contracts.

·      Prepare requests for proposals (RFPs), and perform bid solicitations for auditing, corporate insurance, leases, and other services.  

·      Research staff wage/salary impacts program budgets and maintain salary scales.

·      Assist the CFO in strategic planning, leveraging funding, and developing new programs and policies for agency growth.

·      Responsible for all financial reporting requirements, including charitable solicitations report, 1099s and state annual report, and personal property tax.

Job Qualifications:

·      MBA is a plus and highly favored                                 

·      Have a strong understanding of fund accounting

·      Must be able to work in a cross-functional environment and develop relationships with internal and

external stakeholders

·      Must be able to translate complex technical-specific accounting issues

  • Excellent knowledge of data analysis, risk management, and forecasting methods

·      Strong interpersonal skills, especially negotiation, influencing, relationship-building, and collaboration

·      Ability to be authentic and approachable; and garner trust among peers, staff, donors, board, etc.

·      Understand how to recognize donors through multiple platforms

·      Ability to remain focused results-oriented, and decisive

·      Strategic thinking skills with sound judgment

·      Excellent business writing skills

Pay Rate:                       Salary commensurate with experience 

 

Classification:              Regular/full-time 40 hours/Exempt
