Job Summary: The Urban League of Portland is dedicated to empowering communities and changing lives. We are seeking a dynamic and strategic-minded individual to join our team as an Events and Marketing Manager. This person will play a crucial role in planning, executing, and managing a variety of events and marketing initiatives to support the fundraising goals of the Urban League. This position will work closely with the Director of Development to enhance the organization’s visibility, engage the community, and increase donor support. This role requires a combination of excellent communication skills, strategic thinking, and a passion for building strong donor relationships, as well as a deep commitment to equity and social justice.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Event Planning and Management:

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute fundraising events, community outreach events, and special events.
  • Develop event concepts, timelines, and budgets, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Manage all logistical aspects of events, including venue selection, vendor coordination, volunteer management, and on-site event execution.
  • Oversee event promotion and marketing efforts to maximize attendance and engagement.
  • Evaluate event outcomes and provide detailed reports and recommendations for future events.

Marketing and Communications:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive marketing and communication strategies to enhance the organization’s brand and visibility.
  • Create compelling content for various platforms, including social media, newsletters, press releases, and the Urban League’s website.
  • Manage social media accounts and create engaging content to grow the organization’s online presence.
  • Collaborate with the Development team to create targeted marketing campaigns to attract donors and sponsors.

Fundraising Support:

  • Assist in developing and implementing fundraising strategies and campaigns.
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with potential donors, sponsors, and community partners.
  • Support grant writing and reporting efforts as needed.
  • Manage donor recognition programs and ensure timely and appropriate acknowledgment of donations.

Community Engagement:

  • Foster relationships with community members, stakeholders, and local businesses to build a strong network of support.
  • Represent the organization at community events, meetings, and other public forums to promote our mission and initiatives.
  • Develop and implement strategies to engage the Black community in the Urban League’s programs and events.

Other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods, lifting, walking, driving, cognitive abilities such as working on a computer for up to 8 hrs. daily.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Non-Profit Management, or a related field minimum, master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in event planning, marketing, and fundraising, preferably in a non-profit setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing large-scale events and marketing campaigns.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using social media platforms, email marketing tools, and content management systems.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Passion for the mission of the Urban League and a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing Black communities in Oregon and SW Washington.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed for events.

KNOWLEDGE / SKILL / ABILITIES:

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a Black-led organization and/or serving the Black community.
  • Knowledge of donor management software and fundraising best practices.
  • Graphic design skills and proficiency with design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Commitment to and knowledge of social justice issues and the dynamics of social change, the history, and mission of the Urban League of Portland, and expertise in the present scope of Urban League service and advocacy programs.
  • Demonstrated computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites with an emphasis on Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook programs.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate effectively and project a professional image when giving and taking information in writing, in person, and over the phone.

Salary : $77,925 - $89,613
