POSITION SUMMARY
We are currently seeking an experienced Estimator to join our team. The Estimator will be responsible for evaluating bid specifications and drawings, ensuring that all required information is obtained to successfully bid and win the project. You will work closely with the VP of Estimating in developing Construction Management, Design/Build and Tender opportunities. In addition, you will participate in the creation of proposals while continually developing effective relationships with architects, consultants, and sub-contractors.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Comply with and effectively implement Urban One’s Safety Program to ensure safety and environmental standards are met or exceeded
- Analyze plans, specifications, design drawings and other documentation to ascertain scope of work
- Liaise with client and consultants as required to clarify missing information, analyzing and identifying both the inherent risk and opportunities that the tender presents
- Review of the design and specifications for cost effectiveness and suggest alternatives
- Perform quantity take-offs and estimates for prospective work
- Prepare unit rate pricing for self-performed work; ensures that estimates reflect current costs and that the costing database is kept up to date
- Compile budget
- Evaluate trade quotations
- Assist in the development of proposal documents
- Mentor junior estimators
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma Civil Engineering, Building Technology or Quantity Surveying
- 3 years of related work experience or combination of relevant technical training and experience
- A proven ability to comprehend tender documents, specifications, and drawings, with an understanding of contractual requirements.
- Detailed understanding of all construction scopes of work
- Proven track record of team collaboration
