Dive into Urban Science’s vibrant intern community by actively participating in networking events and social activities with over 20 interns. Our interns become a part of diverse teams including those that develop software and IT solutions, analyze data, support client deliverables and corporate teams. POSITION OVERVIEW

Urban Science is a company that is focused on leveraging data and logic to solve real world business problems. We use cutting edge analytics, proprietary software solutions, and years of industry experience to help our automotive clients create strategies and solutions that make their customers the focal point of their efforts.

The Data Engineering Intern will assist with functions of the Global Data Services team for daily data processing operations and supporting software tooling. The intern will aid in specific project work and enhance their skillset.

The person selected for this position will work up 40 hours per week during the Summer 2025 internship program (May – August).

This role has current Hybrid Workplace flexibility local to our Detroit, MI office location. Candidate must be available and willing to work in-person approximately twice per month.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Data Processing
  • Interact with Urban Science client databases, utilizing Urban Science proprietary software and commercial tooling
  • Execute ongoing and ad hoc processing of data
  • Troubleshoot data processing issues
  • Apply data analysis methods and tools to enhance data cleansing and readiness for use
  • Create and generate data reports and deliverables
  • Follow data confidentiality and regulatory compliance standards
• Data Tooling Implementation
• • Develop maintainable data pipelines, including the required software technologies
  • Employ a variety of languages and tools (e.g. scripting or compiled languages) to marry systems and sources together
  • Apply software engineering best practices, data management fundamentals, data storage principles, recent advances in distributed systems, and operational excellence best practices
  • Perform research and acquire new knowledge and skills on new technologies, processes, and tools for use in data management
  • Document developed tooling and processing for sustainable reuse

  • SQL storage technologies, with a preference for Microsoft SQL server
  • Relational data modeling
  • Data integration and processing
  • Software Engineering practices and processes
  • Configuration management & deployment
  • Exposure to basic programming languages such as: C#, python
  • HTML/XHTML, XML/XSLT, .NET, JavaScript
  • Willingness to learn new technology and possibly merge together many different technologies into a single solution

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Currently pursuing a Baccalaureate degree in an appropriate IT field such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Management Information Systems from an accredited U.S. college or university, equivalent foreign institution, or equivalent experience.
