What are the responsibilities and job description for the Gym Supervisor and Coach position at Urban Ventures?
Wellness & Athletics program provides a variety of activities and classes to provide opportunities and help promote the well-being of participants. Urban Ventures Wellness & Athletics (UVWA) is part of a holistic cradle-to-career pipeline that cares for participants’ bodies, minds, and spirits.
We believe that activities around sports and movement are pathways to mentoring (healthy relationships with safe adults), improved confidence, life-long healthy active outlets and good nutrition and an introduction to possible careers in the world of sports or health.
Responsibilities:
- Coach youth sports team
- Teach and develop youth sports with a positive and fun environment
- As a coach, instruct, coordinate and lead practices and games
- Greet participants when they arrive for programs and events
- Set up table in front and help participants check in for program attendance
- Check participants for proper footwear/gym shoes
- Cross out or check off the names on the printed name list, or register new participants
- Actively watch over and supervise all gym and or field areas with UV programming going on
- Periodically engage with participants to ensure safe, fun and healthy environment
- Periodically check restrooms to make sure there is no smoking
- If participants need equipment make sure all equipment is collected and returned to the equipment cage when done
- Make sure equipment cage is locked at the end of your shift
- Return check in documents/information to office desk or security desk
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Program staff, volunteers, contractor, participants
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Reliable and organized with an ability to manage and schedule basketball instruction sessions.
- Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work well with diverse populations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships with youth and adults of various backgrounds and cultures.
- Ability to approach learning from a place of curiosity and innovation with strong customer service
- An understanding of and commitment to the faith-based mission and values of Urban Ventures
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED
- 2-5 years leadership experience in wellness or athletics
Physical and Environmental Requirements:
- Physical stamina and ability to work in a fast-paced outdoor environment
- Work is performed both indoors and outdoors.
- Outside work requires exposure to varying weather and terrain conditions, Noise, fumes, odors, gases: exposure to moving equipment and occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme heat, wet/humid conditions, open or confined spaces, intermittent vibration and noise.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and keyboard
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work
- Light to moderate lifting may be required
- Regular, predictable attendance is required
Work Location
- Urban Ventures Campus based at 2924 Fourth Ave South, Minneapolis
Work hours:
- Up to 25 hours per week
- Non-exempt, part time
- Evening Hours and Saturday Mornings, schedule tbd at time of hire
Travel:
- Occasional travel to work functions
