Position Overview
The Veterinary Assistant will play an integral role in supporting our technicians, veterinarians, and reception staff in all aspects of patient care, client education, and hospital maintenance. This position requires 1-3 years of veterinary assisting experience and a strong commitment to teamwork, compassion, and continuous learning.
Key ResponsibilitiesPatient Care
- Monitor animal behavior and appearance, reporting any signs of illness, disease, or discomfort to the medical team.
- Provide medication administration and post-operative care under the supervision of veterinary staff.
- Maintain accurate records of feeding schedules, behavior, and treatments.
- Assist with animal restraint during exams, treatments, and diagnostic procedures.
- Prepare patients for surgical procedures, including shaving and sterilization.
- Assist veterinarians and technicians with venipuncture, ultrasound-guided urine collection, and other clinical tasks.
- Perform routine in-house laboratory tests, such as fecal exams and bloodwork.
- Prepare and fill prescriptions as authorized by veterinarians.
- Assist during surgical procedures, ensuring a sterile environment.
- Clean and sterilize surgical instruments and wrap surgical packs for reuse.
- Clean and disinfect kennels, cages, treatment rooms, and surgical suites to maintain a safe and sanitary environment.
- Restock supplies and maintain an organized inventory system.
- Wash and sterilize food and water bowls, launder towels and blankets, and ensure exam rooms are clean and tidy.
- Educate clients about veterinary care, including medication administration, post-surgical care, and preventive health measures.
- Discharge patients with clear and thorough instructions for at-home care.
- Provide excellent customer service, ensuring all client concerns are addressed professionally and compassionately.

What We’re Looking For
Skills & Qualifications- 1-3 years of experience in a veterinary assisting role.
- Strong knowledge of animal handling and restraint techniques, including for exotic species.
- Familiarity with routine in-house lab work and medication preparation.
- Excellent communication and client service skills with a focus on empathy and education.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs and handling animals up to 150 lbs (assistance provided).
- Organizational skills and the ability to work independently on assigned tasks.
