JOB SUMMARY
The Dryer Operator is responsible for the safe operation of the dryer and the yellowcake packaging operations at the Alta Mesa Project. The Dryer Operator will assist in the loading and unloading of the filter press, the loading and unloading of the yellowcake hoppers, and the loading and unloading of the rotary vacuum dryer. The Dryer Operator will also package the yellowcake in 55-gallon drums, and the operator will weigh and seal the drums. The operator will also assist in the handling of the drums for storage and loading on truck transport. The operator will also assist the Plant Operator as needed for other activities related to normal operations.
The position will report directly to the Shift Foreman on a day-to-day basis. The position is a full-time position, and the schedule is for shift work requiring 3 on and 3 off shift cycles with day and night tours.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Log all required dryer and yellowcake information in dryer shift notes that may include temperature readings, lab chemical analysis information, filter press operation, dryer operations, and packaging and weighing operations.
- Monitor all dryer operations and adjust as needed.
- Drop press, working with yellow cake, use of proper equipment respirator, gloves, safety glasses, rubber boots, and coveralls.
- Working with rotary vacuum dryer equipment, packaging dried yellowcake, using proper respirator, and personal protective equipment.
- Handling and staging empty and full drums. Calibrate weight scales, weighing and sealing drums prior to shipment.
- Operating equipment to move drums and load on truck transport.
- Follow safety rules and procedures in all aspects of plant operations including radiation, chemical, and electrical safety.
- Accept individual responsibility and accountability for HSE processes within his/her control, his/her personal safety, and the safety of coworkers.
- Promptly correct or report potential workplace hazards and upset conditions.
- Keep back-end plant areas always clean.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Education, Experience & Skill Requirements:
- High School or GED or combination of training and experience.
- Use a computer and Microsoft programs for generating reports, monitoring plant and well-field conditions, and prepare well-field balance sheet. (training provided)
- Must have a valid Texas driver's license and a good driving record.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Must be well organized.
- Excellent people skills.
- Must be able to work overtime, nights, weekends as needed.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Climb up and down stairs carrying load of 25 pounds.
- Work both day and night shifts 3 days on and 3 days off, alternate every 2 shifts from days to night.
- Work in changing weather conditions, indoors and outdoors.
- Stand or sit for long periods of time.
- Stoop, bend, kneel, reach, and crawl.
- Must pass pulmonary exam to wear respirators as job requires.
- Ability to enter confined spaces as the job requires.
