Description :
The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for performing decontamination, preparation, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment.
The role involves utilizing infection control and safety practices throughout all phases of the process.
The technician must have knowledge of equipment functions to determine operational adequacy and distinguish between operator error and equipment malfunction.
There must be an understanding of applicable sanitary, infection control, and safety standards to perform all assignments within safety parameters.
The role requires knowledge sufficient to assemble and wrap appropriate instruments, supplies, and equipment.
The technician must understand processes, procedures, quality assurance, chemicals, and medical instruments to decontaminate and sterilize equipment, supplies, and instruments.
The ability to lift and move trays of instruments and patient care equipment weighing up to 25 lbs. is necessary.
Good telephone manners and problem-solving skills are required.
The position involves bending, lifting, and washing using decontamination processes, which include handling instrument pans, bins, trays, and carts of various sizes.
Tactile differentiation, such as sensing temperature and moisture, is essential.
Skill in cleaning specialized equipment is also required.
