Job Summary
The Executive Director, Strategy, Portfolio Planning & Business Development will oversee a cross-functional team that will align the UroGen organization around a single holistic perspective on how the organization’s products, pipeline and potential partnerships can satisfy unmet medical needs in the context of marketplace evolution over time. This role reports directly to the VP and has both individual contributor and indirect leadership responsibilities.
As an individual contributor, the ED, Strategy, Portfolio Planning & Business Development will be responsible for managing deliverables across the Business Development, Corporate Strategy, and Portfolio Strategy function. The individual will partner with the VP to assess, source, and execute both internal and external growth strategies through business development and portfolio development efforts. Whether supporting the inline business or business development, this individual will ensure a unified approach to top-quality information to provide senior leaders at the company with the information they need to make the best possible decisions, maximizing the time and skills of the team.
Leadership responsibilities will be indirect, with this role leading cross-functional teams to build an annual life cycle planning process with harmonized methods of assessing potential opportunities. This individual will also work with leadership on developing and refreshing, as needed, a strategic plan.
- MBA and / or advanced degree in Life Science preferred.
- Minimum 10 years’ industry experience required.
- Experience in leading strategic planning and portfolio management / strategy. Alliance management, licensing, and M&A experience preferred.
- Resourceful, strategic, and analytical thinker who can help shape the future strategy of the company.
- A startup mindset is critical. To be successful the individual will need to be a diligent, out of the box thinker, acting with a sense of urgency, taking ownership, having perseverance, and demonstrating a can-do attitude while working in a matrix setting.
- Proactive influencing skills and ability to drive positive change a must.
- Track record of ability to establish and maintain credibility with internal and external scientific and business experts.
- Ability to operate both strategically and tactically to lead the team to execute on defined goals.
- Excellent presentation and communications skills.
- Corporate Strategy – Support the CEO, VP, and full ELT to develop / refresh the corporate strategy and long-term plan for growth. Embed the long-term strategic plan for Urogen, through a revamp of the strategic planning and goal setting process to “to ladder-up” to the corporate plan. Develop an external representation of our long-term strategic plan to investors and potential partners (Vision 2030)
- Portfolio Planning – Ensure that the lifecycle management for our product portfolio is developed and accountability assigned. Work together with the clinical / medical teams (and other cross-functional partners) to lead the process for life-cycle planning and portfolio prioritization to plan for medium- and long-term growth. In addition, responsible for tradeoff analysis of how to maximize revenue of a flagship brand as it transitions into a new formulation.
- Support VP and also take the lead to negotiate and execute business development initiatives, specific steps of which include lead sourcing, outreach to potential partners, diligence, responsible for market research and deal modeling, support negotiation and execution of partnership and licensing transactions.
- Project management of executed collaborations, including responsibility for ensuring upkeep of corporate and project data rooms. Manage diligence processes and communications.
