Formed in 1972, the Urolithiasis Laboratory, aka “Stone Lab”, has performed and perfected one test: calculus analysis. We examine approximately 50,000 urinary and other stones annually, serving more than 10,000 clients throughout the United States and internationally. Our comprehensive stone analysis consists of region-by-region fracture dissection. Stones are examined from nidus to surface crystals by optical crystallography, which is the method preferred by most medical professionals. This technique provides the essential information for proper diagnosis and treatment of stone disease in both our human and veterinary patients.
Description
The Laboratory Technician plays a crucial role within the laboratory supporting daily operations and ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of laboratory tests and procedures. As a vital member of the Stone Lab team, the Laboratory Technician is responsible for preparing samples (pre-analytical phase), conducting tests (analytical phase), and analyzing results (post-analytical phase) to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with stone disease. This position demands a strong attention to detail, a thorough understanding of microscopy procedures, and a commitment to maintaining safety and quality standards within the lab environment. The Laboratory Technician will work under the supervision of laboratory management and collaborate with physicians, veterinarians, and other healthcare professionals to deliver timely and precise test results. Responsibilities
· Conduct routine urinary calculi analysis utilizing petrographic microscopy as directed by supervisor.
· Prepare samples and specimens for analysis and testing.
· Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper functioning and troubleshooting as needed.
· Record and analyze test results, interpreting data to provide accurate outcomes.
· Ensure compliance with safety protocols and quality assurance standards in the laboratory.
· Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and reagents, requesting replenishments as necessary.
Requirements
· Bachelor’s or Associate's degree in Laboratory Technology or a related biological science to satisfy CLIA requirements for high-complexity testing personnel
· ASCP / AMT Certification or licensure (MLT) is highly desirable.
· Proficient in the use of laboratory equipment and technology, including safety procedures.
· Strong analytical skills with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
· Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities to manage workload effectively.
· Effective communication skills to collaborate with medical professionals and team members.
· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining quality standards and patient confidentiality as outlined in HIPAA.
· Ability to learn new laboratory analysis techniques outside the scope of chemistry / core lab testing.
· Ability to work part-time, week-day hours with occasional extra hours to cover staff on PTO
Hours and Compensation
· 20 - 25 hours per week [Day shift] anytime between hours of 9 am-3:30pm
· $25-30 / hour [Hourly, non-exempt position] based on experience
· Occasional need for incumbent to provide additional coverage during Lead's PTO
Salary : $25 - $30
