The PET/CT technologist performs PET/CT, diagnostic CT, and nuclear medicine therapy procedures in accordance with standards set by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and/or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB). This position works within the interdisciplinary team to provide safe and personalized care for patients.
Essential Duties
• Performs high quality PET/CT scan procedures to support accurate diagnosis while maintaining high quality patient care.
• Performs IV injections for all PET/CT scan procedures.
• Performs high quality diagnostic CT procedures to support accurate diagnosis.
• Performs high quality nuclear medicine procedures to include I-131 therapy, Lu-177 Pluvicto, and Ra-223 Xofigo.
• Follows all radiation safety practices and protocols for all nuclear medicine, diagnostic CT and PET/CT procedures.
• Orders, prepares, administers, stores and disposes of radiopharmaceuticals according to established protocols and applicable regulations/standards for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.
• Post processes all PET/CT and diagnostic CT procedures to support accurate diagnosis.
• Uses information systems proficiently including EMR, scheduling, and PACS software applications.
• Interacts with both internal and external customers professionally
• Assist other departments during down times
• Attend and participate in mandatory work related meetings and training sessions
• Assigns Tasks using the electronic medical record (EMR) to communicate pending work.
• Maintain a productive relationship with physicians, radiation therapy, medical oncology, physics and dosimetry departments.
• Follow established practice patterns to ensure the timely readiness of treatment plans
• Follow the code of ethics and practice standards set by the ARRT and NMTCB.
• Compliant with all licensure and certification requirements to perform job as required by applicable State licensing, ARRT, NMTCB and company policy.
• Reports work related injuries to the supervisor immediately.
• Reports unsafe equipment or work conditions to supervisor immediately.
• Attend and participate in regularly scheduled technical/clinical staff meetings
• Acknowledge new or revised policies and procedures through in-service documentation form.
• Participates in OSHA related activities, including drills.
• Ensure that required competencies and mandatory training and compliance activities are completed as assigned.
• Notifies supervisor of sick time before the start of next scheduled shift and days thereafter.
• Requests vacation time in advance in order for the supervisor to arrange coverage.
• Monitors and stock supply levels of PET/CT scan room and/or hot lab and reports to supervisor when supply orders are needed
• Review expiration dates of all supplies in PET/CT room and hot lab monthly and remove expired supplies from service.
• Wears appropriate PPE as outlined by the infection control policies and procedures.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
• Able to administer isotopes and IV contrast.
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely from location to location.
• Operate independently
• Exude an attitude of customer service to patients and staff within an office.
• Shows empathy and compassion
Education and or Experience
• Education: Successful completion of an approved Nuclear Medicine program required. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
• Work Experience: A minimum of two (2) years experience working in general and cardiac nuclear medicine required, including a minimum of one (1) year experience in PET/CT required.
• Special Training, Certification or Licensure: State of Texas MRT license. Current R.T. (NM) with the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) -OR- Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) required. Current CPR/BLS Healthcare Provider certification required. ARRT or NMTCB Certification in CT is preferred but not required.
