SUMMARY :
The Laboratory Technologist is primarily responsible for processing and testing of all specimens submitted to the laboratory. This position will be adhering to all established policies and procedures by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Analyzes laboratory findings to check the accuracy of the results.
- Conducts chemical analysis of body fluids, including blood and urine, to determine presence of normal and abnormal components.
- Operates, calibrates and maintains equipment used in quantitative and qualitative analysis, such as Autoimmuno Analyzer, chemistry analyzer, CBC unit and computer-controlled analyzers.
- Enters data from analysis of medical tests and clinical results into computer for storage.
- Analyzes samples of biological material for chemical content or reaction.
- Establishes and monitors programs to ensure the accuracy of laboratory results.
- Sets up, maintains, calibrates, and cleans medical laboratory equipment.
- Prepares standard volumetric solutions or reagents to be combined with samples, following standardized procedures.
- Conducts chemical analyses of body fluids, such as blood or urine, using microscope or automatic analyzer to detect abnormalities or diseases and enter findings into computer.
- Analyzes and records test data to issue reports that use charts, graphs, or narratives.
- Performs high complexity testing in areas of hematology and chemistry

EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE : Accredited MLT program or military med lab training course, OR 3 years of acceptable clinical lab experience. OR MLT Certification Associate degree (A.A.)
LANGUAGE SKILLS : Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS : Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY : Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
COMPUTER SKILLS : To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of : Internet Software; Word Processing Software (Word); Electronic Mail Software (Outlook); Presentation Software (PowerPoint); and Publisher Software.
