Radiation Tech PRN-Temp

Position Purpose : The Radiology Technologist is responsible for the fluoroscopic x-rays (C-Arm) procedures and other radiation procedures according to facility policy. The Radiation Technologist is responsible to assist with the provision of patient care to meet identified patient outcomes, and to achieve the goals of the facility as directed by the Clinical Leader / Registered Nurse. The Radiation Technologist performs duties according to scope of practice designated by the facility position description, role and responsibilities and under the direction of the designated clinical leader / Registered Nurse.

Degree of Supervision Provided to Position :

Medium, must be self-directed and works under direction of the Clinical Leader / Registered Nurse.

Education, Experience, and Licensure :

High School graduate or equivalent; completion of an accredited radiology program required. 1-2 year experience in radiology. Knowledge and understanding of radiology principles and practices. Certification in radiation technology preferred. Successful completion of BCLS Course within 90 days of employment required or documentation of current BCLS certification.

As a representative of Pasteur Plaza Surgery Center, all comments, attitudes, actions, and behaviors have a direct effect on the facility's image and perceptions of quality service. Interaction with patients, families, physicians, referral sources, affiliating schools, visitors, volunteers, teammates, managers, vendors, etc. must be in a manner that is friendly, supportive, courteous, respectful, cooperative, and professional. B. Clinical Quality :

1. Delivers safe patient care as directed by the Clinical Leader / Registered Nurse and according to facility policy and procedure.

a. Ensures provision of patient care daily in an organized and timely manner.

b. Adheres to all policies and procedures when providing patient care.

c. Demonstrates knowledge of specific responsibilities in all emergency situations.

d. Demonstrates ability to respond to patient care needs in an emergency situation and under direction of the Clinical Leader / Registered Nurse.

e. Initiates and implements basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (BCLS) under the direction of the Clinical Leader / Registered Nurse.

2. Demonstrates ability to meet patients and family's learning needs as identified in the plan of care under the direction of the Clinical Leader / Registered Nurse.

a. Orients the patient and family to the patient care environment and facility routines.

b. Implements the teaching plan as directed.

c. Provides appropriate interventions related to safety issues.

3. Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and competence of designated skills identified for position.

a. Completes competencies and competencies checklists for ongoing education and training and according to facility policy and schedule.

4. Functions as a Radiation Technician under the direction of the Clinical Leader / Registered Nurse.

a. Knowledge of radiation equipment, including the maintenance and care of equipment.

b. Applies principles of radiation protection.

c. Evaluates radiographs for technical quality and stores films according to facility policy and guidelines.

d. Maintains documentation, reports, and files according to facility policy.

e. Calculates and regulates equipment using established technique, knowledge and skill.

f. Knows and practices the principles and procedures of sterile technique.

g. Sets up and operates radiation equipment in operating / procedure rooms.

h. Assists physician with imaging procedures.

i. Assists patients with pre and post procedures according to facility policy and established guidelines.

j. Assists with housekeeping tasks as necessary to provide a safe environment for patients, teammates, physicians, guests.

5. Performs all other duties as assigned by manager.

b. Identifies potentially unsafe situations and notifies manager.

c. Completes all employee / patient incident documentation in a thorough and timely manner, as required by facility policy.

d. Demonstrates complete understanding of established emergency procedures for facility.

e. Practices infection control and standard precautions as instructed or trained.

f. Participates in the facility Performance Improvement and Patient Safety Plan and related process and activities including the areas of Safety, Infection Control, Patient Education / Teaching, Documentation, Adherence to Guidelines for Cleaning / Decontamination of the Center, Adherence to guidelines for Sterilization of Instruments and supplies, Patient Satisfaction, Physician Satisfaction, Compliance with OSHA Standards, and Risk Management.

5. Assists with housekeeping tasks as necessary to provide a safe environment for patients, teammates, physicians, guests.

6. Performs all other duties as assigned by manager.

D. Continuous Improvement :

1. Maintains and evaluates own clinical expertise and clinical practice.

a. Attends 75% of unit based staff meetings and demonstrates review of minutes for any meetings missed.

b. Provides in-services as requested by management

c. Participates in scheduled performance appraisals and demonstrates dedication to ongoing performance improvement.

2. Responsibly demonstrates and the importance of continuing education to the performance of facility responsibilities and growth in profession.

a. Maintains and displays appropriate knowledge of professional developments through printed material or other sources.

b. Attends professional training seminars when appropriate for job development and shares information with other Teammates.

c. Attends and participates in all applicable facility training and development workshops scheduled by the facility

d. Maintains work area and equipment in an organized and clean manner

H. Proficiency or Productivity Standards

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS : Indoors in climate controlled environment. Patient care environment with potential exposure to unpleasant odors, to blood and body fluids which may carry infection, to infectious disease, and to chemical and electrical hazards. Occasional exposure to outdoor climate.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS : Good visual acuity, accurate color vision. Ability to lift / transfer patients in excess of 100 pounds, which may require pushing, pulling and essentially utilizing a full range of body movement. Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and / or crawl. Ability to reach, grasp, use fine finger movement and feel fine sensation to discern temperature, texture, size and shape. Ability to speak and hear.
