About US 1 Shorthaul's Yard Jockey Position:
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Our lead driver is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the activities of a team of drivers while ensuring the safe and efficient work practices. This role involves providing guidance to team members, monitoring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and often serving as the main point of contact for resolving issues during their shift. Our lead driver combines driving expertise with leadership skills to ensure operations run smoothly and effectively.
- Transporting loads from our warehouse to the local distribution center
- Drop the loads at the local distribution center
- Hook up a load at the local distribution center
- Drop the load from the local distribution center to our warehouse
- Maneuvering truck and trailer safely in busy industrial environments
- Correctly move trailers in and out of dock with yard goats
- Accurately perform yard audits at end of shift
- Proper pre- and post-trip inspections and submitting reports indicating truck conditions
- Adhere to guidelines of safety-sensitive functions pertaining to job responsibilities within yard
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
- Possess a team-player attitude
- Ability to read, understand, and demonstrate safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals
- Understanding and communicating in the English language is a requirement
- Ability to request and complete trailer moves in the Yard Management System (YMS)
- Attention to detail
- Good time-management skills
- Great interpersonal and communication skills
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience backing 48' to 53' trailers
- Minimum of 12 months of over the road or trailer spotting experience in the last 3 years
- This position must pass pre-hire background and drug test
- Class A CDL (preferred)
- If applicable, Class A CDL requirements (in addition to the requirements listed above):
- Minimum 18 months over-the-road experience in the past 5 years, of which 12 months must be within the past 3 years that is similar experience
- May substitute local for over-the-road experience
- Minimum 18 months over-the-road experience in the past 5 years, of which 12 months must be within the past 3 years that is similar experience
- If applicable, Class A CDL requirements (in addition to the requirements listed above):
POSITION TYPE:
- This is full-time, hourly (non-exempt) position, paid weekly
- Hours worked over 40 hours in 1-week qualify for overtime (paid time and a half)
TRAVEL:
- No OTR for this position
