Summary About the Position : This position is located at Evans Army Community Hospital, Department of Emergency Medicine, Ambulance Section, Fort Carson, CO. This is an upgrade of an encumbered position. Responsibilities Serves as a Nationally Registered Paramedic (NRP) in one of several areas of a Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) such as an ambulance service, emergency room, or a similar location performing invasive, advanced life support procedures. Responds to the site of accidents or other emergencies involving injury or illness and potential environmental risks. Coordinates with other responding agencies to ensure safe and rapid access to the patient(s) without endangering victims, bystanders, or other emergency personnel. Conducts a complete examination of the patients’ condition to determine the nature, extent, and seriousness of injuries / illness and searches for medical alert information cards or jewelry. Prepares and maintains a variety of charts, reports, forms, and logs in support of the Emergency Department and is required to complete documents in both written and computer-generated formats. Performs procedures that include but not limited to Airway Obstructions and Respiratory Arrest, Chest Pain and Cardiac Arrest, Shock and Fluid Therapy, Wounds, Fractures, and Head Injuries, etc. Performs routine operator safety checks and thorough emergency vehicle maintenance inspections of the vehicle and inventories all supplies and equipment. Specialized experience is defined as : Respond to out of hospital emergency's as a paramedic providing Advanced Cardiac Life Support or Advanced Life Support care; perform advanced airway care via endotracheal intubation and airway support with ventilator or Continuous Positive Airway Pressure; monitor and identify cardiac dysrhythmias and treat abnormal rhythms by protocol with electricity and / or medications. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas : Clinical Analysis and Judgment Emergency Medical Care Health Care Data Entry and Management Vehicle Operation Time in Grade Requirement : Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-08). Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
