Duties
This position is located in the Crime Scene Search, Special Operations Division, Operational Services Bureau. Crime Scene Search is responsible for
responding to various crime scenes, at various locations, and assuming control
of crime scenes in order to photograph, diagram, record, process, and
collect all items of evidentiary value.
Performs a full range of crime scene search functions on a
variety of crime scenes within the Capitol Grounds and its extended jurisdiction.
Processes crime scenes associated with crimes or incidents
such as robberies, stolen cars, and motor vehicle accidents.
Determines the scope of the crime scene, secures the
perimeter, and documents the location of evidence using techniques such as
photography and diagramming.
Processes the scene determining appropriate field tests,
properly safeguarding and marking evidence requiring laboratory testing or
processing, and documenting evidence and
actions to maintain chain of custody.
Collects latent fingerprints through dusting or chemical
development.
Assists in the execution of search warrants.
Note : More

1. Must be a USCP sworn employee below the rank of Sergeant and must have attained the rank of Private First Class (PFC) by the closing date of this announcement.
2. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
3. Must be in full and unrestricted duty status as of the selection date unless otherwise authorized by law (e.g., performance of duty injury, Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), or Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment
Rights Act (USERRA)).
4. Must not be in leave restriction status as of the closing date of this announcement.
5. Must be available to work flexible working hours, all shifts.
6. Must be able to pass the training class.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the education and / or experience requirements described below.
1. Must be a USCP sworn employee below the rank of Sergeant. Must have attained the rank of Private First Class and must have completed the USCP probationary period by the closing date of this announcement.
2. Must not be in restricted leave status as of the closing date of this announcement.
3. Must be in full and unrestricted duty status as of the selection date unless otherwise authorized by law (e.g., performance of duty injury, Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), or Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment

How You Will Be Evaluated
You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
The following selection process will be used to further assess candidates who have met the initial eligibility factors. Candidates must qualify under each phase to be considered in subsequent phases. Phase I : Initial Qualification - The OHR will conduct an eligibility factor review as outlined in this vacancy. Phase II : KSA Assessment - Knowledge, Skills and Abilities will be evaluated by an appointed assessment panel, including resume review. Phase III : Structured Interview - Candidates eligible for Phase III will be scheduled for an oral interview. Results of this selection process will be used to recommend candidates to the hiring manager who is the final selecting official. The OHR will conduct a disciplinary action review to determine if there are pending investigatory and / or disciplinary matters, which will be made known to the selecting official. Prior to making their selection, the selecting official will review any available Department documents, to include application documents and each candidates' complete career disciplinary record, results of selection process phases, and may, at their discretion, conduct interviews with all recommended candidates, if necessary. The selecting official may, at their discretion, not select a recommended candidate for reasons such as : 1. Sub-standard performance; 2. Serious sustained misconduct; and / or 3. Pending investigatory and / or disciplinary matters internally or externally. All aspects of the process are subject to the Department's legal review. All final recommendations are subject to final approval of the Chief of Police.
