Duties
The applicants selected for this position serve
as Special Operations Division (SOD) Police Officers under the direction of the Operational
Services Bureau (OSB), providing police and security services for the United
States Capitol Grounds and other areas as directed.
The SOD is divided into Sections that are responsible for providing
police services during specified tours of duty on a 24-hour basis and security
services designed to protect the Congress, its employees and visitors, and
property under the jurisdiction of the Congress from all threats posed by
criminal activity or civil disorder.
Conduct directed patrol checks or physical
inspections of designated U.S. congressional members' residences (home and
grounds). Provide motorcade escorts for
congressional delegations traveling throughout the District of Columbia,
Virginia, and Maryland and other designated areas in the U.S. as assigned. Patrol the USCP jurisdiction using motorcycles and / or
automobiles responding to calls, violations, and duress alarms involving crimes
in progress or just discovered; enforcing traffic regulations; assisting at
accident scenes; and maintaining a law enforcement presence. Set up and staff barricades. Secure the perimeter around Capitol buildings.
Participate in rapid response operations in response to civil
disturbances or emergency situations.
Note : Multiple vacancies exist. The number of SOD positions will be
determined by the needs of the Department.
Requirements
Conditions of Employment
Must be a current USCP sworn employee below the rank of Sergeant, and must have attained the rank of Private with Training and successfully completed the probationary period by the closing date of this announcement. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Must successfully complete all required training.
Qualifications

3. Must be in a full and unrestricted duty status
to attend, participate, and successfully complete all required training courses
related to this position as of the date of selection.
4. Must be available to work flexible hours,
rotating shifts, and possible midnight assignments.
5. Must successfully
complete the SOD Field Training Program.
6. Must successfully complete all required training
to be a qualified prisoner processor.
7. Must successfully complete and maintain
certifications for any long gun training (M4 rifle and / or Benelli shotgun
qualification).

There is no education substitution for experience in this series and / or grade.

Successfully complete all required training to include a12-week SOD Field Training Officer (FTO) Program, two-week Prisoner Processor Training, one-week M4 rifle and / or Benelli shotgun qualification (and maintain proficiency), and the Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST) School. 2. Satisfactorily complete a one-year probationary period beginning on the date of completion of the SOD FTO Program.

How You Will Be Evaluated

The following selection process will be used to further assess candidates who have met the initial eligibility factors. Candidates must qualify under each phase to be considered in subsequent phases. Phase I : Initial Qualification - The OHR will conduct an eligibility factor review as outlined in this vacancy. Phase II : KSA Assessment - Knowledge, Skills and Abilities will be evaluated by an appointed assessment panel, including resume review. Ability to complete reports concisely and cogently, and to compose effective narratives. Ability to communicate with the public and possess outstanding interpersonal skills. Ability to enforce law and order and maintain public safety. Ability to analyze a situation, obtain facts, and take appropriate action in a stressful situation. Phase III : Structured Interview - Candidates will be scheduled for an oral interview. Results of this selection process will be used to recommend candidates to the hiring manager, who is the final selecting official. The OHR will conduct a disciplinary action review to determine if there are pending investigatory and / or disciplinary matters, which will be made known to the selecting official. Prior to making their selection, the selecting official will review any available Department documents, to include application documents, each candidate's complete career disciplinary record, and results of selection process phases, and may, at their discretion, conduct interviews with all recommended candidates, if necessary. The selecting official may, at their discretion, not select a recommended candidate for reasons such as : 1. Substandard performance; 2. Serious sustained misconduct; and / or 3. Pending investigatory and / or disciplinary matters internally or externally. All aspects of the process are subject to the Department's legal review. All final recommendations are subject to final approval of the Chief of Police.
