Job Summary :

We are seeking a Transportation Manager to lead and manage the safety, quality, delivery, and cost performances of a ~45-person transportation team, including Dispatching, Routing, Customer Service, CDL, & non-CDL Drivers, servicing the western MA, CT, ~Albany, NY areas at our Middletown, CT Distribution Center.

The approximate hours are 3am - 12pm and requires shift flexibility based on operational need. Reporting to the CDC Director, this role encompasses various responsibilities, including :

Responsibilities :

Driver Recruitment and Training :

  • Hire qualified drivers who meet licensing and safety requirements.
  • Provide comprehensive training on company policies, safety protocols, and vehicle operation.

Driver Management :

  • Develop and maintain relationships with third-party transportation providers to ensure reliability and efficiency.
  • Review Third Party Transportation KPI's to ensure customer service targets and cost are in line with business goals.
  • Track and analyze driver performance metrics, such as safety, quality, delivery, cost performances, and customer satisfaction results.
  • Conduct regular Driver meetings including safety meetings and training sessions.
  • Maintain clear communication with drivers about schedules, expectations, and changes.
  • Create an open environment where drivers can share feedback on routes, schedules, and company policies.
  • Act as a liaison between drivers and upper management.
  • Compliance Oversight :

  • Ensure that all transportation operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Customer Service :

  • Address any issues that arise with drivers, including delays, and customer complaints.
  • Manage transportation management systems (TMS) to streamline operations and enhance tracking.
  • Cost Management :

  • Manage transportation General Ledger and Cost per Stop to meet business objectives.
  • Monitor transportation costs and work to optimize routes and logistics to minimize expenses.
  • Required Skills :

  • Over 10 years of supervisory experience or its equivalent.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Experience with Process Improvement methodologies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant computer programs.
  • Ability to work under pressure with a sense of urgency.
  • Capability to multitask in a fast-paced, competitive environment.
  • Exceptional leadership skills with conflict resolution abilities.
  • Flexibility in work hours (alternate shifts may be required).
