Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Engine Assembly Technician to join our remanufacturing team. You will be responsible for the precise assembly of remanufactured automotive and/or diesel engines using prepared components. Following established procedures, technical specifications, and quality standards, you will assemble engine long blocks or complete engines, ensuring all components are correctly installed, measured, and torqued.
Key Responsibilities:
- Receive and verify machined and cleaned engine components (blocks, heads, crankshafts, pistons, rods, etc.) are ready for assembly.
- Perform final cleaning and preparation of components before assembly.
- Conduct pre-assembly checks and measurements according to work instructions (e.g., checking bearing clearances with Plastigage or dial bore gauges, verifying piston ring end gaps).
- Assemble engine long blocks or complete engines following detailed build sheets, technical manuals, and standardized work procedures.
- Correctly install crankshafts, bearings, pistons, connecting rods, camshafts, timing components, cylinder heads, valve trains, and other related parts.
- Utilize calibrated torque wrenches to tighten fasteners accurately according to specified torque values and sequences.
- Apply sealants and install gaskets/seals properly to ensure leak-free operation.
- Perform in-process quality inspections and measurements to verify work meets required specifications and quality standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe assembly workstation.
- Properly handle and maintain assembly tools and equipment.
- Accurately document assembly steps, measurements, component serial numbers (if applicable), and quality checks performed.
- Collaborate with team members, quality control personnel, and machine shop staff as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of [#] years of experience in engine assembly, engine rebuilding, or as an automotive/diesel technician with significant engine repair experience.
- Strong understanding of internal combustion engine operation, components, and assembly principles.
- Proficient in using precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, bore gauges, torque wrenches).
- Ability to read and meticulously follow technical manuals, build sheets, diagrams, and work instructions.
- High degree of mechanical aptitude and excellent attention to detail.
- Commitment to quality workmanship and following procedures accurately.
- Ability to work efficiently in a production-oriented environment.
- Physical ability to handle engine components (with assistance) and stand for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Completion of a vocational/technical program in Automotive Technology, Diesel Technology, or Engine Machining/Assembly.
- ASE Certification(s) such as Engine Repair (A1), Diesel Engines (T2 or similar), or Engine Machinist (M1, M2, M3).
- Experience in a high-volume engine remanufacturing or production assembly environment.
- Familiarity with specific engine makes relevant to our business
