U.S. Got People is searching for a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (Cardiac Sonographer) to work full-time with the Cardiology Department at Portsmouth Naval Medical Center, VA

Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate from an academic program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
  • Certificate: Possess American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or American Registry for Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) approved continuing medical

education of at least 12 hours within the last 12 months

  • Experience: Experience as a Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer of at least one (1) years within the preceding four (4) years. - OR - Recent graduate of a program in Echocardiography accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) within the preceding one (1) year. Experience with 2-D, M-Mode, Doppler, Colorflow, Bubble Study, and contrast media. Experience must have been obtained following completion of a program in Echocardiography accredited by the Commission on Accreditation

of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). (The experience can be conveyed through transcripts, resumes, publications, letters of recommendation, etc.)

  • An active BLS certification through the American Heart Association
  • Licensure/Registration: A current primary certification and registration as a Sonographer from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (SARRT); - OR – A current post- primary certification and registration as a Sonographer as determined by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (S-ARRT); - OR – A current certification and registration as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer as determined by the American Registry of Diagnostic

Medical Sonography (DMS-ARDMS). - OR - A current certification and registration as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) as determined by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)

Job duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Perform direct noninvasive vascular diagnostic studies such as carotid duplex, upper and lower arterial and venous duplex, renal artery, superior mesenteric artery (SMA), celiac artery and portal hepatic duplex. Coperate noninvasive vascular diagnostic equipment such as duplex imager, treadmill, PVR, continuous wave Doppler and PPG.
  • Educate patients with peripheral vascular disease to promote health and avoid complication of their disease process.
  • Assist the vascular nurses in the triage, scheduling and follow-up examinations of patients in the Vascular Surgery division, as well as, patients referred for diagnostic studies from other divisions, outpatient clinics and inpatients of the MTF.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in all aspects of noninvasive vascular testing: test purpose and definition, anatomy and physiology, pathology involved, test procedure, instrumentation and test interpretation and communicate all findings both orally and in writing to health care providers.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Doppler and vascular physics and hemodynamics of arterial and venous systems in normal and abnormal patients.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of computerized data retrieval systems for patient scheduling, organization of laboratory results and quality assurance programs.
  • Maintain a supply inventory, arrange for appropriate and regularly scheduled maintenance of complex diagnostic equipment and arrange for repair or replacement of broken vascular laboratory equipment.
  • Orient physicians, nurses, corps staff and students in the health care disciplines to the scope of diagnostic procedures, treatment, and health care interventions for patients with vascular disease.

Schedule

  • Position is full time with shifts being 8 hours long
  • Shifts are day only. No night or overnight shifts!
