CDL Driver II

Founded in 1916, Myers operates seven locations in Pennsylvania and two in Maryland, providing specialty building materials to customers across central Pennsylvania and Maryland, including the the Baltimore – Washington, DC metropolitan area.

A Brief Overview

The CDL Driver II delivers materials to job site, primarily delivering wall panels and/or trusses requiring oversized load permits. Inspects and maintains truck, reports shortages and claims to supervisor, and assists in loading and storing of materials. Typically, driving a truck with a capacity of more than three tons, and may be a more experienced driver who also operates a forklift. Also includes more experienced tractor trailer drivers.

What You Will Do

• Operate safely.
• Participate in a positive work environment.
• Maintain a current Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License as required.
• Prepare DOT required log of time on duty and driving.
• Organize and secure load.
• Assist forklift operators when loading.
• Check orders for accuracy.
• Deliver and unload materials to customers’ satisfaction.
• Complete daily equipment pre-inspection.
• Record all merchandise that is returned by truck, assists in unloading material returned for credit.
• Follow guidelines established by the Department of Transportation.
• Provide excellent customer service.
• Relay messages sent by customers while on job.
• Assists supervisor, other employees and other work areas, as assigned
• Assist in maintaining good housekeeping in yard and warehouse.
• Comply with all company policies and guidelines.
• Operate truck mounted forklift safely and effectively.
• Maintain cleanliness of truck.
• Participate in and complete assigned trainings.

Education Qualifications

• High School or general equivalency degree (GED) required.
  
  

Experience Qualifications

• 5 years of industry experience / freight handling required.
• 1 year of CDL experience for interstate commerce required.
  
  

Skills And Abilities

• Ability to do basic math, read orders, write instructions and complete forms.
• Ability to effectively and professionally communicate with customers, other employees and supervisors using verbal and written skills.
• Ability to deal constructively with conflict and recognize potential problems.
• Maintain current operator’s license and meet company driver qualification requirements.
• Knowledge and ability to use safe lifting techniques.
• Proficiency with or ability to learn current technologies (e.g. Smartphone, GPS and other necessary business applications).
• Skills demonstration: Special product handling, access to tight spaces, residential deliveries, demonstrate proficiency with equipment operations.
• Excellent teamwork & customer relationships.
• Demonstration of leadership (three out of four required):
• Mentor new associates
• Willingness to train others
• Safety committee engagement

Licenses and Certifications

• Class A CDL License or Class B CDL License required.
• For Boom Crane CDL Driver positions - a Certified Drill Rig Operator-NCCCO Boom Certification preferred – maintain active accredited certification for equipment type (e.g. NCCCO, NCCER, CIC) preferred.
