POSITION SUMMARY:
The HVAC Mechanic’s role is to perform skilled mechanical maintenance duties in the inspection, repair, installation and alteration of District heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems and related equipment and facilities; perform preventive maintenance and routine servicing of equipment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Through the employee’s own efforts, the employee accomplishes the following essential functions:
1. The HVAC Technician performs activities that are low hazard, routine, and repetitive.
• Inspect, repair, modify and install HVAC equipment including refrigeration and air conditioning compressors, receivers, condensers, chillers, water cooling towers, forced air converter units, pumps, automatic and hand valves, expansion valves and capillary tubes.
• Conduct regular preventive maintenance inspections of refrigeration units, isolated heating and ventilating units, including boilers, gas and electrically operated air conditioning equipment, and make necessary adjustments or repairs; service and repair evaporative coolers.
• Repair or replace defective parts in units and equipment and their controls, including thermostats, automatic switches, fan controls, log switches, damper motors, louvers, relays, filters, controls, belts, compressors, heat exchangers, high limit controls, pressure controls, safety valves, and automatic gas valves.
• Operate a variety of hand and power tools, welder torch, vacuum pump, test equipment utilized in the trade and a motor vehicle; maintain equipment in effective and safe working condition; maintain parts and tool inventory.
• Repair and rebuild semi-hermetic reciprocating compressors and compressors for centrifugal refrigeration machines.
• Perform skilled electrical maintenance work in the repair, installation and alteration of HVAC equipment, components, timers, motors and wiring systems as needed; connect motors to control panels.
• Test and examine boiler operations, observing meter and pressure gauges; conduct boiler water quality test and treatment; adjust boiler burner combustion.
• Lubricate and pack heating, ventilation, refrigeration, and air-conditioning motors, pumps, fans, and other equipment.
• Install and calibrate systems; install copper tubing and repair pipes and tubing as necessary; test joints and insulate pipes of refrigeration and air conditioning systems; flush boilers, descale tubing; rebuild pressure and temperature safety valves and water pumps.
• Install, rebuild, replace or repair fans, motors, thermostats, fuses, filters, bearings, valves, controls, gaskets and other equipment as necessary.
• Maintain related records concerning time, labor and materials; maintain log of tasks performed and write reports as required.
Ensures the safety of all clients and other external and internal stakeholders.
• Recognizes and reports unsafe conditions and maintenance problems to supervisors and intervenes immediately as needed to ensure safety. (i.e. Blocks access to wet floors, etc.) • Adheres to infection control procedures on an ongoing basis.
• Ensures buildings are secured and locked at appropriate times.
• Observes appearances and conditions of premises and equipment: reports needed repairs, safety hazards or conditions requiring outside vendor services.
• Replaces light bulbs and fuses.
• Uses all equipment and chemicals in a safe manner and according to directions and / or as trained.
• Follows written directions when using chemicals and ensures they are mixed safely.
• Uses equipment appropriately, to avoid cuts, sprains and any other injuries to self or others.
• Employs proper lifting techniques to prevent injury to self or others.
• Attends and participates in staff meetings, including Safety Meetings.
• Wears proper clothing (i.e. Slip resistant, closed toe shoes) always to ensure safety.
• Works during hours that do not conflict with the client’s schedules and times that do not impose safety hazards.
• Requests assistance from coworkers as needed to ensure safety (i.e. Lifting furniture, etc.).
2. Demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
• Reports and responds to client grievances immediately, representing US&S in a positive manner.
• Consistently performs quality work and completes all assigned quality assurance processes (I.e. Checklists), addressing any noted deficiencies in a timely manner.
• Represents US&S favorably to internal and external stakeholders and other stakeholders.
3. Works effectively with coworkers and supervisors to accomplish goals. • Requests and provides assistance to coworkers as needed.
• Informs supervisor when tasks need to be reprioritized and / or when assignments or schedules need to change, or when assignments cannot be completed.
4. Other job duties as assigned.

PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
• 1-2 years’ experience employed in a similar role
• Prior training in Universal Precautions and Safety Measures.
GENERAL PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
GENERAL WORKING HOURS:
• The HVAC Technician works mostly during the day. On occasion, the HVAC Technician may be required to work outside of their regularly scheduled hours to accommodate a client’s need.
WORKING FROM HOME:
• This job cannot be completed working from home.
TRAVEL:
• On rare occasion (about 1%) of the time, may be required to travel to attend a training.

2. Physical requirements for the HVAC Technician:
• Heavy work. Exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally and / or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and /or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
3. The visual acuity requirements for the HVAC Technician (including color, depth perception and field vision).
• Required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned and to make general observation off facilities or structures.
4. The HVAC Technician will be subject to the following conditions in this position:
• Required to work inside and outside, while being exposed to various climates for short periods of time (less than one hour).
• Subject to hazards which includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, and exposure to chemicals.

Qualifications
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
• HS Diploma or GED.
• Two years of documentable HVAC journeyman level operation, maintenance and repair experience in the HVAC and refrigeration trade.
• Valid photo identification to enter the work area.
• Ability to pass pre-employment and ongoing drug and alcohol screening tests.
• Ability to pass requirements to obtain a security badge, as needed by the client.
• Authorization to work in the US as per the E-Verify database.
• At least 3-5 years of general building knowledge

Salary : $28 - $32
