Job Summary:
The Aggregate Pit Manager oversees and manages the day-to-day operations of an aggregate pit site, ensuring the efficient and safe extraction of materials such as sand, gravel, and crushed stone. This role involves managing production, quality control, safety protocols, and staff within the pit. The Aggregate Pit Manager works closely with other departments such as logistics, maintenance, and sales to ensure that production targets are met and materials are delivered on time.
Key Responsibilities:
- Pit Operations Management:
- Oversee the daily operations of the aggregate pit, including scheduling, equipment utilization, and ensuring maximum production efficiency.
- Monitor and control the extraction process to meet both production and quality standards.
- Ensure that the proper materials are being mined and transported in compliance with specifications.
- Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance:
- Enforce safety policies and ensure that all operations meet local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to ensure a safe working environment.
- Manage and enforce practices to minimize environmental impacts, such as dust control, proper waste management, and reclamation procedures.
- Staff Supervision:
- Supervise and coordinate the work of a team of operators, laborers, and maintenance personnel.
- Provide leadership, training, and performance reviews to ensure staff efficiency and safety.
- Schedule and allocate work assignments based on operational needs and employee skills.
- Production and Quality Control:
- Ensure production targets are met by managing labor, equipment, and material flow effectively.
- Collaborate with quality control teams to ensure aggregate meets customer specifications and standards.
- Troubleshoot any operational or equipment issues that arise during the production process.
- Maintenance and Equipment Management:
- Oversee the regular maintenance and repair of equipment used in the pit to minimize downtime.
- Work with maintenance teams to ensure equipment is properly serviced and in good working condition.
- Monitor the wear and tear of machinery and make recommendations for new equipment or upgrades as needed.
- Budget and Cost Management:
- Develop and manage the budget for the pit operation, ensuring that production costs are kept within budgeted limits.
- Monitor expenses related to labor, materials, equipment, and maintenance.
- Analyze cost reports and implement cost-saving measures when necessary.
- Customer Relationship Management:
- Ensure timely delivery of materials to customers, and address any client inquiries or concerns.
- Work with the sales team to forecast material demand and adjust production schedules accordingly.
- Reporting and Documentation:
- Prepare and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly reports on production, safety incidents, and operational status.
- Keep records of permits, inspections, and regulatory compliance documents for auditing purposes.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- Experience:
- Experience in aggregate production, mining, or a related field.
- Previous experience in a supervisory or managerial role is highly preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong understanding of aggregate production processes and equipment.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance standards.
- Ability to analyze and solve complex operational problems.
- Proficiency with basic computer applications, such as MS Office or specialized pit management software.
