Summary Joining the Secret Service, Office of Investigations, Criminal Investigative Division will allow you to provide technical guidance on counterfeiting systems and participate in counterfeiting investigation activities. Typical work assignments include : Providing technical support of automated database systems to enhance counterfeit reporting operations and systems. Providing technical guidance to stakeholders. Researches, develops, and participates with other stakeholders in the design and development of automated systems and applications to track and analyze a variety of information related to counterfeit activities and investigations. Verifying and documenting counterfeit documents and assigns tracking numbers in an automated tracking system; determines how notes should be handles and stored; provides information and guidance to the Field on proper reporting and handling procedures and ensures compliance with agency and federal policies and other applicable governmental and law enforcement agencies and stakeholders. Exercising independent judgment based on experience and interprets guidelines for application to specific requirements or uses guidelines as the basis for making procedural deviations from established administrative and / or technical methods, and / or adapts guidelines when judgment is exercised based on an understanding of the intent of the guidelines and react accordingly. Maintaining liaison with Federal, state, other law enforcement and national security agencies. This Counterfeit Systems Specialist position starts at a salary of $82,764, GS-11 step 1, with promotion potential to $153,354, GS-13 step 10. Qualifications To be considered qualified for this position you must meet the following qualification requirements for the respective grade level in which you are applying. You qualify for the GS-11 level (starting salary $82,764) if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level performing duties such as : Monitoring the handling of counterfeiting evidentiary information to maintain integrity. Analyzing counterfeiting research or trends to determine procedures to conduct examinations. Reviewing automated systems to ensure accurate counterfeit reporting is completed. OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, LL.M., or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position if the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You qualify for the GS-12 level (starting base salary $99,200) if you possess one of the following : One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level performing duties such as : Performing counterfeit investigation activities (i.e., evidence management, research, auditing operations, information tracking, conducting analyses, reporting) to contribute to the completion of investigations. Evaluating counterfeit investigative information to produce analytics, briefings, testimony, and / or recommendations. Utilizing automated systems to maintain, analyze, and / or process investigative information. Time-in-Grade Requirements : Under competitive merit promotion procedures, any individual who is currently holding, or who has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under a non-temporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service, must meet "time-in-grade" requirements (have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade of the grade for which you are applying). Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to current competitive service employees applying for a Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
