We are seeking a Junior Application Developerto join our team in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The Junior Application Developer is a key part of our Software Development team, responsible for software support of critical business applications and enhancements to our current systems environment. This role reports to the Manager of Software Development.
Functions/Responsibilities:
- Work in conjunction with others in the Software Development department to, code, test, debug, deploy, and document new functionality for existing US Signal applications and new applications, as defined by the business needs.
- Interact with end users via phone, email and trouble tickets to resolve support issues related to US Signal internal applications.
- Support of business intelligence reports using reporting software.
- Work in conjunction with other technical departments to escalate and resolve business impacting systems issues.
- Other projects as assigned by US Signal Management.
Required Experience:
Competencies:
- Desire to learn new skills.
- Strong working knowledge of SQL is required (MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc).
- Strong working knowledge of HTTP and a server-side scripting language (PHP, Ruby, etc).
- Strong working knowledge of JavaScript and CSS.
- Functional knowledge of Linux / Unix system administration.
- Functional knowledge of TCP/IP and enterprise networking services.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Telecommunications knowledge and/or experience is a strong plus.
Education:
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Technology is preferable but not required
Experience:

Up to 1 year experience working in a software development, programmer or software engineer role
- Previous experience working with web-based application development is highly desirable
- Previous experience working with large enterprise software environments is ideal
- Previous application development in a team environment is preferred.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
This position operates in a variety of environments. The majority of the time is spent in a professional office environment and this role routinely uses standard office equipment.
