RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions
- Gift Shop Operation
- Ensure that the gift shops are open and closed in an accurate and timely manner and that they are properly secured.
- Meet or exceed the expectations of the Merchandise Operations Manager for the cleanliness of all gift shops and related areas.
- Prepare and distribute gift shop reports in an accurate and timely manner.
- Respond to and, whenever possible, resolve guests’ questions and complaints promptly and in a manner that reflects the Mission and Spirit of the Rocket Center.
- Ensure that merchandise shops have adequate supplies necessary to conduct daily operations.
- Systematically and accurately conduct physical inventory counts.
- Gift Shop Organization and Supervision of Staff
- Ensure that Gift Shop staff receives timely, relevant, and appropriate training.
- Ensure that Gift Shop staff complies with all Rocket Center policies and procedures as well as departmental guidelines.
- Ensure the accurate and timely completion of tasks assigned to Gift Shop staff.
- Ensure that staffing schedules optimize productivity and comply with contractual obligations.
- Demonstrates good judgment within the supervision of staff.
- Effectively monitors staff performance and offers appropriate coaching, counseling, and discipline as required.
- Completes staff evaluations, documentation, etc., on time and effectively.
- Serves as an effective role model to staff by demonstrating exemplary work ethic.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Required Experience
- Must have experience effectively coordinating the display and appearance of merchandise.
- Must have excellent verbal communication skills to interact with guests and employees.
Preferred Experience
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in retail is preferred.
- Experience in inventory procedures desired.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Physical Requirements
This position has the following special requirements:
- Walking, and climbing (stairs) to access other departments and gift shops.
- Standing for long periods (4-6 hours).
- Pushing, carrying, and lifting items and merchandise weighing up to 40 pounds to waist height.
- Bending, kneeling, and reaching to store, stock, and retrieve merchandise and supplies.
- Reading, sight, wrist movements, feeling to operate register, conduct inventory, inspect displays, racks, and merchandise.
- Talking and hearing to instruct employees and assisting guests in person and over the phone.

Must be authorized to work in the United States.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Environmental Factors
This position takes place in an air-conditioned retail environment.
Expected Hours of Work
Expected hours of work are from 8 am-6 pm. However, special events may require hours worked outside of these times. Supervisors are expected to have open availability.
