SALES CENTER MANAGER
OVERVIEW
Ensure the effective and efficient operation of the Sales department and develop contacts to increase and generate attendance and revenue for SPACE CAMP, Aviation Challenge, and the US Space and Rocket Center programs. Use sales and marketing efforts including but not limited to traveling promotional events, attending camp expos, sales, marketing, or teacher conferences, and outreach educational events that fit within the target audience. Additionally, market and develop new contacts and follow up on existing ones via email, telephone, and marketing campaigns. Ensure that all programs and activities follow established plans and timelines, target appropriate geographical regions, promote the quality and integrity of camp and museum programs, and reflect the Mission, Vision, and Spirit of the Rocket Center.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions
- Sales Management
- Responsible for leading and motivating a team of inside and outside sales professionals to produce revenue for the U.S. Space & Rocket Center by selling a variety of different programs, but not limited to Space Camp, Aviation Challenge, Robotics Camp, Daily/Ultimate Field Trip programs, and special programs.
- Works with the Director of Sales in creating successful long-range sales plans, determining cost to execute plans, and accurately estimating potential revenue.
- Ensure the accurate, timely, and effective implementation of sales activities, group sales activities, telemarketing efforts, direct contact activities, sales tours, and client relations to support the marketing/development department.
- Meet or exceed the expectations of the Director of Sales and Outreach for researching, establishing, and nurturing new client relationships including results in sales for all programs of the Rocket Center.
- Ensure that all employees receive timely, relevant, and appropriate training.
- Ensure that all staff follow all Rocket Center policies and procedures as well as departmental guidelines.
- Ensure the accurate and timely completion of tasks assigned to Sales staff.
- Formally and regularly communicate with staff all relevant and appropriate operational and corporate information.
- Ensure that staffing schedules optimize productivity and comply with contractual obligations.
- Respond to, and whenever possible, resolve customer questions and complaints promptly and in a manner that reflects the Mission, Vision, and Spirit of the Rocket Center in a timely, courteous, and efficient manner.
- Promote courteous customer service; closely monitor and ensure that customer hold time and abandonment rate are kept in an acceptable range and as needed answer 800-line promptly to always ensure excellent customer care.
- Call Center Management
- Explain products or services and prices, and answer questions from customers.
- Obtain customer information such as name, address, and payment method, and enter orders into computers.
- Record names, addresses, purchases, and reactions of prospects contacted.
- Adjust sales scripts to better target the needs and interests of specific individuals.
- Obtain names and telephone numbers of potential customers from the source.
- Answer telephone calls from potential customers who have been solicited through advertisements.
- Telephone or otherwise respond to correspondence from customers or to follow up initial sales contacts.
- Maintain records of contacts, accounts, and orders.
- Schedule appointments for sales representatives to meet with prospective customers or for customers to attend sales presentations.
- Conduct client or market surveys to obtain information about potential customers.
- Communicate and collaborate with other departments to ensure the flow of current information and to create/maintain programming throughout the center.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education
- BS Degree in Sales, Marketing, Communications, Business, Education, or a related field
Required Experience
- 5 years related work experience in inside/outside sales, call center/reservations, communications, or marketing with at least 2 years at the supervisory/managerial level.
- Experience in some facets of the tourism and travel, convention, and/or group sales industry.
- Experience in budget preparation, setting of sales goals, and monitoring of budget and sales goals.
- Must be able to establish and monitor incentive programs for sales and/or reservation staff and ensure fair and equitable application.
- Must be able to plan, direct, and train others to achieve goals and oversee specific projects.
Preferred Experience
- Experience marketing to families with children ages 10-16.
- Front-line customer service experience.
- Experience working in TAM Point of Service and Circuitree Camp Management Systems
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Physical Requirements
- Sitting for long periods (4-6 hours) behind a desk.
- Standing for long periods (5-7 hours) to execute promotional activities.
- Walking, and climbing (stairs) extensively to access departments, buildings, and to travel.
- Carrying, and lifting supplies, boxes weighing up to 40 pounds to waist high.
- Bending, kneeling, and reaching to experience all areas of the facility.
- Sight, reading, wrist movements, feeling to operate computer terminal, read programs, develop presentations.
- Talking and hearing to conduct presentations, and interacting with guests, employees, and direct staff.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
- Must be able to use a 101 key keyboard and possess knowledge of Windows-based operating systems: including some basic associated software applications (word processing and spreadsheet, preferably MS Office).
- Must be familiar with a variety of videoconferencing software to attend and host meetings.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Environmental Factors
- This position deals extensively with the public and employees of the Rocket Center.
Expected Hours of Work
- This position may require travel, including overnight stays, for up to multiple days as a team leader or individual by automobile and airplane in various weather conditions including setting up displays and promotional activities and simulators.
