Job Description
This position is responsible for technical support of all laboratory test methods. This position is responsible for developing and managing the Master Sanitation Schedule in accordance with Food Safety and Quality requirements, and OSHA regulations, for all plant-wide 5S activities. Assists with the development and implementation of Safe Quality Food (SQF) and other certification related programs.
FUNCTIONS
Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions
• Maintain and update the Master Sanitation Schedule for the USSSR facility as required. Design and implement new areas as needed.
• Conduct routine inspections and audits throughout the facility.
• Provide training and counsel to the management team on the 5S philosophy
• Monitor dust accumulation and troubleshoot root causes of dust buildup.
• Certify in Safe Quality Food, HACCP and Internal Audits.
• Participate actively on the Quality Team and Safety Team.
• Participate in regulatory, 3rd party and customer inspections.
• Oversee Glass and Brittle Plastic Program.
• Oversee Document Control maintenance and annual review of designated company applications.
• Review data entry/support shipping laboratory requirements in ADC and PeopleSoft.
• Order supplies, services and maintain calibration standards.
• Maintain and monitor magnet pull checks.
• Provide relief for vacations and absences as needed
• Required to report physically to the prime work location. May be required to visit other company facilities.
• Detects and reports defective and unsafe conditions in respective work areas.
• Knows and observes Plant Safety work procedures and rules, Environmental Practices and GMP Guidelines.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervision.
Additional Responsibilities
• Assist with the development and implementation of SQF and other certification related programs.
• Assist with Finished Product Release.
• Enter work orders as needed.
• Provide technical support to process, packaging, and shipping departments.
• Interface with process group as a technical resource for process improvements.
• Back up for analytical equipment repairs and respond to repair or service calls
• Back up to train associates on test methods and use of analytical equipment.
• Back up for Laboratory Split Sample Program.
• Ensure that adequate equipment is recommended (provided) for cleaning activities.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Professional Certifications/Licenses
The following are the basic qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in science discipline required.

• Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, or Biology preferred.
Experience
The following are the basic qualifications:
• Five years relevant industrial experience
• Minimum three to five years laboratory experience.
• Demonstrated laboratory maintenance ability.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (including any physical demands)
The following are the basic qualifications:
• Proficiency in Microsoft applications and Email programs.
• Basic knowledge of food safety and quality. Ability to read and comprehend advanced instructions, correspondences, and memos. Ability to write correspondence to both internal employees and external people.
• Good interpersonal and communications skills. Ability to speak in front of large and small groups.
• Ability to perform basic math functions and analyze data with software programs.
• While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk and listen. Use of hands to grasp, handle, pinch, pick-up and type. Reach with hands and arms. Ability to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The associate must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions
• Work is performed in a quiet, climate-controlled, open area shared with other employees.
• Work is regularly performed away from the office more than half the day. When away from the office, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold and extreme heat. When away from the office, the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. While performing the duties of this job, the employee can be exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
• Weekend duty and other job assignments in the quality department may be assigned.
Employee Supervision
• No direct supervision.
Decision Making/Accountability
• General supervision, unusual and non-routine tasks handled by supervisor. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a many concrete variables in standardized situations.
