Position Summary: The Electrical Engineer is a salaried-exempt role that operates under the guidance of the E&I Manager. The position is designed to foster growth and proficiency in supporting plant operations through the troubleshooting of complex problems, training plant personnel, and engineering solutions to operational challenges and improvements. The Electrical Engineer will work both independently and as part of a team, coordinating electrical operations across different plant sections such as the Boiling House, Mill, Power Generation, and Refinery. The key objective is to maintain/enhance overall plant reliability and minimize operating costs, leveraging engineering principles, technology, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) to maintain safe and effective working conditions within the manufacturing division.
Essential Duties:
- Install and maintain electrical and instrumentation equipment according to company specifications.
- Comply with all Company policies and governmental regulations related to Health, Safety, and Operations.
- Engage in all safety training sessions, safety classes, pre-shift meetings when necessary and obtain any necessary certifications.
- Ability to troubleshoot/design high voltage AC (138KV,13.8KV, 4150V, 2400V) and medium voltage AC (480V, 208V) systems in an industrial environment.
- Ability to troubleshoot various motor types and motor control devices.
- Proficient with Rockwell HMI and PLC systems.
- Handle after-hour plant electrical issues on a rotating schedule.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to coordinate tasks and report any issues.
- Participate in safety meetings and training sessions to enhance job performance and adhere to workplace safety standards.
- Assist with other tasks or operate different machinery as needed and qualified.
- Serves as a technical liaison for maintenance repairs and installations which require the use of wiring, circuitry, or other electrical/electronic application to ensure safe and efficient use of systems.
- Oversees and participates in the development and administration of PLC systems. Researches operations applications to determine system feasibility and specification and implements where appropriate. Tests new or revised systems for performance and trains users on system as necessary.
- Reviews changes in available technology regarding computerized machine systems for potential implementation. Categorizes products and costs and makes recommendations for purchase and implementation.
- Maintain viable records and files and prepare reports and summaries of activities. Document and maintain a preventative maintenance program for electrical systems which include MCC’s, medium voltage switchgears and low voltage instrumentation controls.
- Inspects operating machines and equipment for conformance with electrical/electronic standards.
- Abide by and enforce all Company policies outlined in the Employee Handbook and comply with all Company, Local, State and Federal regulations relating to Health, Safety, Operations, etc.
- Provides written reports to management as required.
- Conducts on-the-job training where required.
- Determines work methods and types of materials to be used on electrical maintenance and upgrade projects.
- Confers with department heads in regard to proposed work.
- Scheduled on call weeks Holiday work may be required
- Additional functions required as business needs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from a regionally accredited university.
- Minimum of 5 year’s experience in related field.
- Ability to follow oral and written instruction.
- Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English for effective communication and safety adherence.
- Must have normal color vision.W
- Demonstrate physical ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
Applicant must be in good health and physically able to perform all phases of the work.

- Experience of NEC and NFPA70E.
- New hires must pass a drug test and other pre-employment background screening, and successfully complete any required training or orientation course.
- Must be able to establish good working relationships with bargaining unit employees, including the ability to coach and mentor for performance.
- Must be proficient in MS Excel, Word, and SAP or similar software.
Incumbents will be required to master SAP within a reasonable amount of time. - Must successfully complete all assessments and test for the company
Working Conditions:
- 30% of the work environment is conducted in an open outdoor environment, exposed to heights and rapidly changing temperatures including extreme heat, weather conditions, blowing dust and particles, burning bulk and liquid fuel, while wearing PPE (i.e.: hard hat, goggles, hair net, ear plugs, and/or full body chemical resistant suits), climbing stairs or ladders, kneeling, crawling, bending, stooping, reaching, and walking on uneven ground containing slip and trip hazards.
