- Mostly lab environment within a project team. Individual would be assigned an office space and lab space for work.
- Daily Work Schedule Expectations - Core schedule hours are 9-4, but willing to be flexible.
- Chemical engineers support API and natural products projects through all phases of late-stage development, commercialization, and product life cycle.
- This position is responsible for ensuring that processes can be run safely, addressing scale-up issues and developing and implementing robust API process steps from the lab to a manufacturing environment.
- The engineer is responsible for late-stage process development, assessing key unit operations (e.g., reactions, centrifugations, filtrations) for process robustness, scientific understanding, and potential scale-up risks.
- Effective cross-functional interactions with other functions (e.g., technical, quality, regulatory) and on-site manufacturing personnel are key for successful job performance.
- Develop scalable and robust engineering processes for natural API products.
- Investigate, identify, develop, and optimize new methods and techniques to generate reliable and reproducible data in a timely manner.
- Read and adapt scientific literature to accomplish assignments and demonstrate broad and versatile technical expertise within discipline.
- Leverage core chemical engineering principles (chemical kinetics, transport phenomena, thermodynamics, mathematical modeling) in experimental design, thought process in problem-solving, and data analysis.
- Routinely demonstrate scientific initiative and creativity in research or development activities.
- Exhibit productive performance in laboratory experimentation, pilot plant, and/or manufacturing support space, with direction from or interaction with supervisor.
- Formulate conclusions and design follow-on experiments based on multidisciplinary data.
- Pursue areas of investigation that are scientifically impactful to development and pipeline programs.
- Author publications, presentations, technical reports, regulatory documents, and/or patents.
- Demonstrate high proficiency across a wide range of relevant technologies.
- Independently design and conduct critical experiments that further project goals.
- Understand relevant scientific literature and apply theoretical framework to solving problems within scientific discipline in a timely manner.
- Understand and adhere to corporate standards regarding code of conduct, safety, appropriate handling of materials, controlled drug and radioactive compounds, GxP compliance, and animal care where applicable.
- BS or MS in chemical engineering or a related field and 2 (BS) or 0 (MS) years of relevant industrial experience.
- Possesses strong written and oral communication skills.
- Possesses theoretical and practical knowledge of own scientific discipline.
- Experience with biomolecule recovery processing (e.g. tangential flow filtration, protein fractionation by solubility, viral reduction) is desired.
- Experience with biomolecular characterization (e.g. SDS-PAGE, enzyme bioassay, immunoassay) is desired.
