Duties
- Manage in-storage checks for obvious need for maintenance, vermin control, and damage; reporting findings to supervisor for action.
- Unload, inspect, and tally stock, assuring quantities and types of items agree with shipping documents.
- Assume custodial and property responsibility for stock as it is received, warehoused, selected and issued.
- Determine the basis for over, short or misplaced items by checking items on hand against records.
- Consolidate and arrange items to keep aisles and other traffic areas clear of obstructions.
- Utilize sit down and standup forklift's, and vehicle's up to 5 ton truck to move items.

- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must have, or be able to obtain, and maintain a valid state driver's license.
- Must have, or be able to obtain, and maintain appropriate government licenses for vehicles up to10,000 pounds and forklifts up to 10,000 pound capacity.
- This position requires a medical examination prior to employment.
Qualifications
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Materials Handler (MVO/FLO)~ without more than normal supervision. To meet the screen out element, applicants should document experience or show the ability to perform tasks in collecting, receiving, storing, selecting, issuing, and transporting shipping materials and supplies; operating forklifts and other light vehicles; performing general maintenance on equipment; reading or preparing vouchers used in lending or shipping; using hand tools; and using an alphanumeric keyboard to enter data and maintain inventory. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
- PHYSICAL EFFORT: Performs work on hard surfaces. Stands, stoops, bends, pushes and works in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May be required to work at a rapid pace for prolonged periods. Frequently lifts and carries heavy and bulky material and may handle items individually, or with assistance, or by use of hand trucks or dollies and forklifts. Loads and unloads vehicles and conveyances. Moderate physical effort is used in operating forklift and motor vehicle hand and foot controls while driving, turning, starting and stopping, raising, lowering and tilting loads being moved, or while handling cargo. Considerable physical effort may be required to lift or move TADSS and MILES items. Loads and unloads vehicles and conveyances.
- WORKING CONDITIONS: Warehousing work is normally performed inside. Inside work is in areas that may be hot, cold, damp, drafty or poorly lighted. May work in bad weather in outside areas such as open docks, or when loading or unloading vehicles. Vehicle operation is normally outside and in all kinds of weather. Forklift operation is normally inside, but may occasionally be required outside. The work may be dirty or greasy. Is exposed to possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, fumes, dust or injury from material handling. Incumbent may be exposed to adhesive spray mount chemicals when repairing brush guards/Velcro on Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System (MILES) devices. May be exposed to eye-safe laser beams when function testing MILES devices. Protective clothing/equipment and procedures are provided which minimizes any hazardous exposure. May be exposed to electrical shock or burns while setting up and operating electrical equipment.
