JOB SUMMARY:
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optician to join our team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in providing exceptional patient care and supporting the optometric practice. As an Optician, you will assist in various clinical and administrative tasks including assisting patients with optical selections, completing sales, interpreting insurance benefits, optical measurements, order processing, optical inventory support, and ensuring a smooth and efficient workflow within the office.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- HS Diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree preferred
- Optical experience required.
- Experience submitting and processing optical orders through insurance is required.
- Proficiency in optical systems and retail math will be essential for this role.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Attention to detail, organizational skills, and a commitment to providing excellent patient care.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Educate patients on proper contact lens care, eyewear options, and post-examination instructions.
- Interpret insurance benefits and calculate correct patient responsibility amounts.
- Make optical lens recommendations in accordance with the Optometrist's exam findings and recommendations.
- Close optical sales and deliver exception customer service.
- Dispense optical orders to patients, ensuring proper fit and patient education on eyewear.
- Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the optical display area.
- Utilize electronic health record systems such as Eyefinity for patient management.
- Process eyeglass orders through insurance and submit to the optical lab for processing.
- Collaborate with team members to enhance the overall patient experience.
SENSORY, MOTOR REQUIREMENTS:
- Required to stand, walk and sit; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands to handle or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms.
- Regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch and lift up to 25 pounds.
- Extensive use of computers.
