Rocha Controls is a full-service company specializing in supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, computer networks, programmable logic controller (PLC) systems, telemetry, instrumentation, and variable frequency drive and motor control center installations. We are seeking a self-motivated and effective Electrical Controls Engineer to join our existing design team. This is a hybrid position with opportunity to be fully remote.
The Electrical Controls Panel Designer will work with a highly experienced team of electrical engineers/designers and other interdisciplinary personnel, including process, mechanical, and civil engineers/designers. These teams specialize in public works and private client projects for water treatment facilities, which typically include designs for pump stations, skid-based treatment systems, switchgear, motor control centers, standby and emergency power systems, roadway/area lighting, underground conduit systems, cable tray systems, and more.
Electrical Controls Panel Designer Job Responsibilities
- Create complete shop drawing and instrumentation submittals, including I&C system designs and calculations for utility services, standby power generation, motor control centers, variable frequency drives, conduit and cable schedules, electrical system design (lighting, instrumentation, PLC/RTU control and monitoring, and communications), detailed design calculations, and preparation of EI&C specifications in low voltage to medium voltage electrical systems.
- Communicate verbally and in writing to engineers and customers regarding technical questions about the project.
- Assist shop personnel with any technical questions.
- Communicate effectively with customers, internal team members, and suppliers.
- Deliver projects on-time and on-budget.
- Participate in the development of new and improved documentation, system features, designs, and code.
- Stay fully utilized and manage multiple tasks with strong prioritization skills.
- Travel to sites to assess existing systems and create design plans based on those assessments.
Project Management
- Interpret customer requirements, identify and address design parameters and engineering problems, and ensure solutions are implemented accurately and within budget through clear customer communication.
- Work across the electrical project execution lifecycle, with assistance and review from other electrical engineers as needed, from concept development to detailed final design and construction phase. Provide engineering services during construction, including review of and responses to shop drawing submittals, requests for information (RFIs), change proposal requests, and coordination with clients and other internal project managers.
Key Qualifications for Candidates

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-sufficient and capable of traveling to sites to assess existing systems and create design plans based on those assessments.
- This position requires 0%-25% travel.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree (BS), in electrical engineering, from a four-year college or university.
- Minimum 5 years of post-graduate experience in the conceptual and detailed design of electrical/instrumentation/control systems for water treatment facilities or general industrial controls. Compensation will reflect this qualification.
- PE Preferred but not required - Compensation will reflect this qualification.
- Broad skills with various software packages (AutoCAD, Word, Excel, Project Scheduling).
- Strong technical writing and communication skills.
