Job Summary:
The Grounds Worker is responsible for performing routine grounds maintenance and landscaping duties to ensure a clean, safe, and visually appealing environment. This role involves the use of various tools and equipment to maintain lawns, trees, flowers, and hard surfaces while adhering to safety regulations.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Mow lawns and trim grass around walkways, flower beds, and walls.
- Prune shrubs and trees to improve growth and appearance.
- Remove damaged leaves, branches, and twigs using hand and power tools.
- Collect and dispose of outdoor trash and debris.
- Maintain hard surfaces, storm drains, and other grounds features.
- Plant, fertilize, water, and apply herbicides/pesticides to vegetation.
- Remove snow and ice from walkways and driveways, and spread salt as needed.
- Maintain driveways, parking lots, fences, gates, and irrigation systems.
- Assist with minor maintenance tasks, including carpentry, masonry, plumbing, painting, and electrical work.
- Operate trucks, tractors, and other equipment for grounds maintenance.
- Arrange facilities for special events and ensure safety compliance.
- Attend training programs as required.
- Follow OSHA and campus safety policies and report any accidents or hazards.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Essential Job Functions:
- Must be able to lift 50–100 lbs occasionally, 50 lbs frequently, and 20 lbs constantly.
- Requires physical activities such as climbing, balancing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, and grasping.
- Must be able to work in various environmental conditions, including extreme weather.
- Requires the ability to hear, see, and operate machinery safely.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least one year of full-time labor/trades work, including routine grounds maintenance experience.
Special Knowledge & Skills:
- Basic knowledge of tools, materials, and equipment used in grounds and maintenance work.
- Understanding of safety precautions related to groundskeeping.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
TN Driver Standards:
- Must have a valid driver's license and meet the State of Tennessee driving qualifications if driving is required for the position.
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $13.95 - $15.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
