Responsibilities
This position will be responsible for overseeing nursing education and professional development at USA Health University Hospital; responsible for coordination and collaboration across the Health system thereby directing the unit-base nurse educators, with the goal of promoting high-quality and cohesive nursing education and professional development; uphold the values, mission, and visionof USA Health; oversee and help provide education opportunities for staff and the community; oversee and help with the education needs assessment and the planning, development, organization, implementation, and evaluation of educational activities for front-line staff, including orientation; utilizes principles of adult learning in the education process; maintain a working knowledge base of the latest technological advances including hardware and software applications which may be used in the creation and presentation of educational programs; provide audio-visual equipment and instruction for use for hospital-wide activities; utilize apersonal computer for program development; evaluate effectiveness of educational activities; participate in the development, interpretation, and education of hospital policy and procedures; coordinate with key stakeholders to provide emergency/high-risk clinical responder drills/simulations in accordance with organizational objectives; collaborate with other members of the healthcare team in planning, implementing, and evaluation educational programs for patients and families, as requested; contribute to the website/social media coordination of education/calendar postings; initiate and/or participate in performance improvement studies, evidence-based learning, and research activities and education; assist with the Alabama Board of Nursing Continuing Education reviews, approvals, and submissions, including maintaining records, approving classes, and transmitting files to ABN; serve as a coordinator for Basic Life Support, to include maintaining current instructor data, coordinating staff BLS check offs, and updating student certificates in HealthStream; foster adherence to accreditation and regulatory standards; adhere to current infection control and safety standards; maintain equipment and supplies; maintain professional knowledge and skills through journal reading and educational programs related to patient care and age specific needs of staff, management of people, and resources; provide direct patient care to maintain clinical skills as workload permits; assist in the introduction and evaluation of new equipment and procedures; communicate and use appropriate customer relation skills with healthcare team members, patients, families, and healthcare teams; maintain records; participate on committees as assigned; demonstrate regular and prompt attendance with the ability to work the assigned schedule, including overtime as required; perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama, five years of directly related experience, two of which were in a supervisory capacity, a current Alabama RN license or current Multi-State RN License in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) for Alabama and BLS instructor certification. Master's degree in nursing, nursing education, or healthcare administration is preferred. Nursing Professional Development certification preferred.
