Responsibilities
This is responsible professional clinical laboratory work conducting and/or supervising a variety of chemical, microscopic, and biological tests for diagnosing diseases. An employee in a position allocated to this classification is responsible for conducting routine and complex laboratory analyses using independent judgment; recognizing and solving testing problems; maintaining quality control; ordering laboratory supplies; supervising lower level laboratory personnel conducting laboratory analyses; teaching laboratory theory and techniques to students; maintaining equipment; collecting specimens; preparing reagents; work is performed under the general supervision of a technical or administrative superior and is reviewed for results obtained.; conducts routine and complex laboratory analyses in chemistry, hematology, blood bank, microbiology, and urinalysis using independent judgment; recognizes and solves testing problems; reports unusual conditions to supervisor; supervises laboratory assistants and technicians engaged in conducting laboratory analyses and tests; maintains equipment and ensures quality control standards for testing procedures are maintained; orders laboratory supplies; teaches laboratory theory and techniques to students; collects specimens and prepares for analysis; prepares reagents necessary to conduct analyses; verifies patient information and records test values on computer system using CRT; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; performs related duties as required.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama and registry eligible with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist.
