Responsibilities
As part of its efforts to expand scholarly and clinical activities, the Department of Pediatrics at the Whiddon College of Medicine, University of South Alabama, is seeking a board certified/board-eligible (BC/BE) Pediatric Cardiologist for a faculty position. The ideal candidate should be comfortable managing both inpatient and outpatient general pediatric cardiology cases, as well as performing non-invasive testing, including EKG, Holter/Event monitoring, exercise stress testing, and echocardiography. Additional training in fetal echocardiography, cardiac MRI, and/or cardiac CT is preferred but not required.
USA Health is a comprehensive academic health system that includes USA Health University Hospital, USA Health Providence Hospital, USA Health Children's & Women's Hospital, USA Health Mitchell Cancer Institute and USA Health Physician Enterprise. USA Health Children's & Women's Hospital is a 250-bed facility featuring a 95-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), a 20-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), 67 medical-surgical beds, and a 25-bed emergency room.
The Pediatric Cardiology division manages more than 3,000 outpatient visits annually. The perinatal cardiology program works in collaboration with maternal-fetal medicine, performing approximately 300 fetal echocardiograms each year. The division also offers a rural outreach clinic and a telemedicine clinic for adult congenital heart disease, in partnership with a regional ACHD specialist. Inpatient care is provided at USA Health Children's & Women's Hospital, the region's primary referral center and home to the area's only Level Ill NICU, which admits approximately 900 patients annually. Patients requiring cardiac surgery are referred to regional surgical centers primarily in Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana.
Responsibilities include providing comprehensive pediatric cardiology care in both inpatient and outpatient settings, performing and interpreting non-invasive diagnostic tests, participating in medical student and pediatric resident education, and contributing to the department's academic and clinical initiatives.
Candidates must have completed fellowship training in Pediatric Cardiology and be board certified or board eligible. Academic rank is open to Assistant Professor and Associate Professor level and will be commensurate with training, experience, and scholarly productivity.
