Responsibilities
The System Manager of Perioperative Business Services is responsible for overseeing the financial and business functions of all network hospital perioperative services. Reporting to the University Hospital CEO, the manager will have a focus on revenue generation, expense management, financial analysis, budgeting, and vendor business management. As a member of the perioperative leadership team, the manager will be a collaborative and inclusive leader working with interdisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Charge Capture and Reconciliation
- Implement and maintain a robust charge capture system to ensure all billable services and supplies are accurately documented and billed.
- Conduct daily charge reconciliation to compare charges generated to services provided, protecting revenue streams and promoting early identification of issues.
- Educate clinical staff on compliant practices for capturing, reviewing and reconciling charges.
- Evaluate, update, and audit surgery charges periodically and in conjunction with the Chief Revenue Officer, clinical department leaders, and physicians.
Financial Management
- Rigorously monitor department expenditures and revenue, ensuring alignment with financial goals.
- Develop the annual operating budget for perioperative departments in collaboration with department clinical leaders, physicians, and administrators.
- Create capital budget plans for perioperative departments in collaboration with clinical leaders and administration, to include equipment and capital projects.
- Prepare and track capital submissions, tracking, receipt, and reconciliation.
- Analyze financial performance and provide recommendations for improvement to leadership.
- Provide robust financial analysis of perioperative departments to department and physician leadership, and hospital administration.
- Collaborate with supply chain leaders and physicians to continually analyze opportunities for strategic cost reduction, supply utilization, and vendor contract compliance.
- Support clinical department leaders in budget variance reporting.
Operational Oversight
- Manage the day-to-day operations of perioperative supply chain, including inventory management and equipment logistics, in collaboration with supply chain and clinical engineering teams.
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the perioperative charge clerks.
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the perioperative invoicing clerks.
- Manage perioperative vendor relationships and vendor compliance.
- Collaborate with the data analytics team to support monthly reports.
- Design and implement business operations tools to capture performance.
- Review and advise on vendor contracts within the perioperative departments.
- Participate in projects related to systems redesign and process re-engineering to improve revenue and reduce costs.
- Participation in the Value Analysis Team meetings.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in healthcare finance or perioperative services management.
- Strong understanding of medical coding, billing processes, and healthcare reimbursement models.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with proficiency in data analysis and reporting.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities and experience managing cross-functional teams.
- Knowledge of healthcare compliance regulations and best practices in revenue cycle management.
