Responsibilities
Provides leadership and direction for general accounting and financial reporting for USA Health (USAH). Reports directly to the Controller; Provides leadership and direction for general accounting and financial reporting related to USAH; Prepares reports and works on special projects for USAH and other initiatives as determined by administration; Ensures monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting is accurate, timely, and compliant with all accounting standards, state reporting regulations and USAH accounting policies and procedures; Coordinates with the University for all financial statements; Oversees the USAH general ledger ensuring the accuracy for chart of accounts; Oversees and monitors the financial condition and reporting requirements of USAH; Ensures programs, processes, and policies are designed to provide a strong system of internal controls; Identifies areas in which processes can be improved and streamlined; Coordinates with the Controller to ensure that entries are completed timely and accurately for month end closing; Reviews and ensures completion of all general ledger account reconciliations; Works with internal, external, and state auditors with respect to matters impacting financial and general accounting reports and information; Prepares reports requested by management and where applicable, provides analytical commentary and advice; Ensures that the Director of Tax is aware of all transactions that potentially impact sales tax, unrelated business income, federal excise tax, or other tax issues; Ensures the proper recording, reconciliation, and review of related Joint Ventures associated with USAH; Coordinates with the University Business Office for the proper recording, reconciliation, and review of GASB 87 and GASB 96 entries; Identifies areas in which financial reporting can be streamlined or made more efficient through more effective use of the Banner, PAWS and Argos; Assists and supervises implementation of new software/upgrades for the Banner system and other departmental software; Regular and prompt attendance; Ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required; Other duties as required.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting or directly related business field from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama and six years of professional accounting or finance experience, three of which were in a supervisory capacity. A master’s degree and CPA are preferred.
