Responsibilities
Abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies and performs these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization’s values; adheres to hospital policies including confidentiality; requires minimal supervision to safely perform patient care/essential functions; utilizes proper body mechanics when moving equipment/supplies that is necessary to perform essential functions; communicates and uses appropriate customer relations skills with physicians, patients, families, and healthcare team in person and via telephone; responds to digital pages; maintains accurate and complete records by documenting all activity clearly and concisely on the patient account; accepts and completes all duties positively and without conflict; cooperates, helps others, and improves the performance of the unit; completes all mandatory unit, educational and hospital requirements; utilizes cost effective practices in performing all aspects of the job; adheres to current infection control and safety standards; formulates and implements policies and procedures regarding billing; coordinates billing activities with all departments who provide data for this functions; ensures compliance with all hospital and departmental policies and procedures; assists administrative staff with billing implications for new services; ensures the timely and accurate billing of patient records; monitors changes in billing of patient accounts; holds periodic meetings with staff to determine what the needs are and listens to their problems and suggestions; reviews established procedural controls to ensure systems and procedures are being followed correctly; implements changes in billing systems; communicates specific needs regarding payer edits to electronic billing agent; ensures effective operation of (LAN), responding immediately to equipment problems to ensure minimum downtime; develops standards for monitoring quality and production levels for each area of responsibility and monitors progress on a continuing basis; prepares and analyzes various billing reports relating to Accounts Receivable; maintains and updates procedure codes to ensure compliance with billing requirements and to ensure payment; assists administration staff in answering inquiries pertaining to patient accounts; reviews the effectiveness of the collection process for assigned financial coverage; reviews effectiveness of patient accounting system and coordinates the resolution of system problems of modifications through Information Systems; prepares accounts receivable reports as requested by administration; communicates with payers in regard to claim processing difficulties or new processing procedures; evaluate legal implications of patient complaints regarding billing or level of care; supervises all personnel in assigned area, including hiring, disciplinary action, and evaluation; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; related duties as required.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in business or a directly related field from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama and four years of managerial experience in a medical or hospital business office setting. Directly related experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
