Responsibilities
Assists in the diagnoses and therapeutic management of patients under the supervision of a physician; issues diagnostic and therapeutic orders including orders for approved drugs following applicable guidelines; provides instructions and guidance regarding health care and medical therapy to patients, family members and significant others; performs complete, detailed and accurate documentation; performs multiple procedures independently; functions as first assist in cardiovascular and thoracic procedures; critical care management of ICU patients pre and post surgery; liaison to surgeon and resource for general surgery residents of a high volume cardiovascular and thoracic service; manages chest tube, drains, and anticoagulation; Trauma rapid response, assisting in a wide variety of cardiac, thoracic, and vascular injuries; present new consults, manage patient care, and confer with referring providers and other team members; dictate history and physicials, consults, procedure notes, and discharge summaries; participate in the care of patients in a high volume clinic with multiple surgeons, complex patients, pre/post assessment and decision making; wound care mangement including negative pressure devices; electronic medical record proficiency; on-call duties as required; other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Completion of an accredited physician assistant training program as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama and licensure with the state of Alabama to practice as a Physician Assistant within two months of employment. (Preferred)

Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama, completion of an approved nurse practitioner training program, certification as a nurse practitioner, and licensure with the state of Alabama as a nurse practitioner and registered nurse.
