Responsibilities
Issues final diagnostic report on gynecologic cases (Papanicolaou smears) that are negative; provides a preliminary diagnosis in cases warranting further evaluation by a pathologist; monitors and evaluates the performance of personnel; coordinates work schedules, ensuring adequate staffing coverage; conducts orientation and training of new employees; recommends appropriate action in regards to employee job performance; directs and assists hospital personnel in the collection of cytologic specimens; interacts with faculty, staff, and other medical personnel by phone, letter, or in person; assists in the coordination of activities for Pathology residents on rotation; recommends departmental continuing education activities; maintains compliance with CLIA 88 and CAP laboratory accreditation standards to include enrollment in and successful completion of a federally approved proficiency testing program; assists with research to include coordinating internal and external research and performing research immumnohistochemistry; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required; related duties as required.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in a physical or natural science from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama and three years cytotechnology experience. Registry with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
