Responsibilities

Abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies and performs these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organizations values: adheres to facilities policies including confidentiality; serves as a preceptor for new employees and respiratory students; assists in the emergency treatment of acute cardio-respiratory arrest; administers continuous and interment cardiopulmonary therapeutic procedures, administers respiratory medications to the respiratory tract and is able to state the purpose, rationale, precautions and observations related to those procedures. assesses patient’s progress and participates as a multidiscipline team member in care of the patient; requires minimum supervision to safely deliver care to the patient; demonstrates the ability to provide competent patient care to adolescent, adult and geriatric; utilizes the principles of aseptic practice and initiates corrective action when breaks occur, participates in evaluation of new products; maintains appropriate supplies for procedural needs,; provides appropriate care to specimens and cultures as directed by set policies and procedures; establishes and maintains aseptic/sterile fields as required; adheres to electrosurgical safety policy and procedures; decontaminates instruments according to unit policy; assists physician who performs advanced bronchoscopy including: Robotic, Endobronchial Ultrasound, standard and therapeutic; utilizes proper mechanics when moving and transferring patients and equipment with or without assistance; ability to stand for extended periods and exposure to radiation requiring wearing of lead shields; utilizes a PC to access the Hospital Information System.; communicates and use appropriate relation skills with physicians, patients, families and healthcare team in person, via telephone and email; maintains accurate and complete records according to department standards; completes all mandatory unit, educational and hospital requirements; maintains and adheres to all infection control and safety standards; accesses and accurately maintains electronic and paper medical records; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtimes as required; related duties as required


Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and three years of related experience. Completion of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program, current licensure with the Alabama Board of Respiratory Therapists, and registry eligible with the National Board of Repiratory Care. Bachelor's degree and experience in a bronchoscopy laboratory or critical care setting is highly preferred.
