Responsibilities
Demonstrates the ability to provide competent patient care to neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient populations.; administers radiation therapy treatments to patients as prescribed by a Radiation Oncologist if necessary (if also Certified Radiation Therapist); communicates, interprets, and executes physician orders; calculates Monitor Units, point doses, gap calculations manually and aided by computer; creates computer generated isodose plans and correctly interprets planning from other treatment centers.; maintains appropriate log for all calculations and plans; reviews schedules and treatment charts for compliance with departmental quality assurance guidelines; collaborates with Simulation and treatment machine therapists to obtain/verify field parameters. Responsible for maintaining correct dosages due to machine malfunctions or other situations that may arise; assists, loads sources, and performs planning for brachytherapy procedures; archives patient files in treatment planning system; participates and follows through with National Protocol Requirement Studies; adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards; requires regular and prompt attendance and the ability to work the assigned schedule including overtime and call as needed; adheres to hospital policies including confidentiality; utilizes proper body mechanics when moving, positioning, and transferring patients without assistance or with assistance when needed for patient safety; prepares room and equipment to meet specific treatment requirements of each patient; observes radiation safety measures; communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with patients, physicians, families and the health care team in person and via the telephone and the ability to respond to overhead pages; other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent and completion of an approved Medical Dosimetry training program or certification with the American Registry or Radiologic Technologists (AART) as a Radiation Therapist with specific dosimetry training, and certificate eligible with the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (MDCB), which must include two years of clinical dosimetry experience under the direction of a Certified Medical Dosimetrist, Medical Physicist, or Radiation Oncologist.
