Responsibilities
Coordinates workflow and organizes staffing, under the supervision of the Radiologic Technologist Supervisor; performs a variety of related digital image management tasks as necessary, i.e., exceptions and annotations; maintains competency by demonstrating a complete working knowledge of all imaging equipment and proper positioning for routine and procedural exams; adjusts immobilization devices and equipment, with physician guidance when needed, to obtain diagnostic images; appropriately labels patient position to reflect correct orientation of images, with use of marker in Radiology or comet labeling in advanced modality; adjusts technical factors in proportion to patient and body part being examined while minimizing radiation (Radiation producing modalities); provides radiation protection to patient, family, staff and self, according to prescribed safety standards (Radiation producing modalities); adheres to all safety requirements in non-radiation producing modalities (MRI, Ultrasound); reviews requests and written orders, checking for special instructions from physicians and consults with physician as needed; pleasantly greets patient, confirming their identity using two identifiers and introducing oneself; communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with patients, families, and all members of the healthcare team; completely explains examination procedure to the patient and family, if present; performs all routine radiographic, fluoroscopic, portable procedures as assigned; performs advanced modality examinations as assigned; may be assigned to Diagnostic Radiology or advanced modality area, as determined by supervisor; performs visual preventive safety inspections of all equipment used and communicates problems to supervisor; maintains necessary inventory of supplies, rotating stock in an orderly fashion, and eliminating outdated items; maintains orderliness and cleanliness of the department; recognizes emergency situations and initiates codes procedures as needed; completes all aspects of a patient’s exam, including ensuring images are available for physician review on PACS in a timely manner, charging procedures and supplies, documenting contrast usage, and documenting history or additional PACS notes; protects patients and employees by adhering to infection control policies and procedures; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; related duties as required. |
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent, successful completion of an approved course in Radiologic Technology, and four years of experience conducting routine diagnostic procedures, two of which were in IR. Completion of an approved program in advanced modality or one year of experience in advanced modality may be required, as applicable. A bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Technology may substitute for up to one year of experience in conducting routine diagnostic procedures. Registry with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Diagnostic Radiology is required. Advanced registry is highly preferred for advanced modalities, and may be required for certain modalities.
