Responsibilities
The Supply Inventory Technician Ill provides assistance to the Health System Distribution Supervisor to ensure policies and procedures are being followed, staff are focused on the area of greatest need, and all duties are carried out to support the health system; abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies and performs these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization's values; adheres to hospital policies including confidentiality; requires regular and prompt attendance; works the assigned schedule including overtime and call as required; assists with the orientation of new employees; requires minimal supervision to perform all essential functions; utilizes proper body mechanics when: lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds, which is a required essential function, and moving supply carts weighing up to 500 pounds, which is a required essential function; reports broken or malfunctioning equipment to supervisor or department head; verifies accuracy of shipments including biohazard, radioactive substances by count, size, description and manufacturers' catalog number with information on invoice; inspects items for damage or defects and records information on freight bill or packing slip; returns incorrect items and equipment for repair with appropriate paperwork; pulls and delivers supplies and equipment to departments utilizing rolling carts weighing more than 250 lbs.; delivers patient care electrical equipment to Biomedical Engineering for inspection and proper tagging; loads and unloads shipments received; serves as a resource person in the absence of Supply Inventory Technician Ill; reviews supply usage and reports needed adjustment to Supervisor; performs related duties as required; prepares outgoing shipments ensuring the most economical shipping service level is used; assists Hospital staff with shipping questions and preparing shipments; provide leadership to Receiving team to ensure all duties are completed; direct workflow so most critical tasks are being addressed first; update the weekly assignment board; run and post the prior week's productivity report; ensure Receiving phone is being answered; monitor asset tags and input new items into the log daily; engage with customer requests to prevent disruptions to receiving staff; control the receipt of recalls and alerts; research items that need to be received; resolve exceptions and help maintain Teams file; help resolve problem cart items with purchasing; receive EDI daily from Cardinal and work errors; maintain the address log; input daily shipping log into excel for enhanced tracking; communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families, healthcare team and staff in person and via telephone; responds to overhead pages, receiving telephone and digital pager; maintains accurate and complete records by: documenting on the packing sheet date of receiving, documenting quantities received and any shipment issues, obtaining appropriate signature of the department receiving the items, and maintaining packing slips in an orderly manner; accepts and completes all duties positively and without conflict; cooperates, helps others and improves the performance of the unit; completes all mandatory unit, educational and hospital requirements; utilizes cost effective practices in performing all aspects of the job; adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards; other duties as assigned/required. Participates on committees as assigned; participates in Performance Improvement activities through quality measurement or participation of ICARE process as assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent and three years of clerical experience, two of which must have been in receiving, storing, shipping, and issuing stores and/or laboratory items. Specified positions may require possession of a valid driver's license and maintenance of a driving record sufficient to maintain insurance coverage under the University of South Alabama.
