Job Summary
The Specialist, National Events will be a part of USA Swimming’s Technical Events Division. The National Events team works across the country to host qualifying swim meets for both professional and amateur athletes in the sport of swimming. This position assists the Director, National Events in administering and executing national events by handling operations and logistics, publications, communications, and documentation.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Supports the Director, National Events in establishing and executing standard operating procedures to maintain quality events both in and out of the pool, with emphasis on USA Swimming Championship events, including event logistics, contract management, and host payments to all championship events.
- Assist in coordination and operation of all national events, including publications, communications, logistics, broadcasts, and documentation with specific responsibilities in the conduct of the following events:
- U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming,
- USA Swimming National Championships and/or National Team Trials, Speedo Junior National Championships, Toyota U.S. Open,
- World Aquatics World Cups (if domestic)
- Pan Pacific and Junior Pan Pacific Championships (if domestic),
- TYR Pro Swim Series,
- Futures Championship Series,
- Speedo Sectional Series,
- Open Water Championships,
- Age Group and Senior Zones,
- Any new events that may arise.
- Manages national event contracts, purchase orders, and payments including but not limited to:
- Host, hotel, and contractor contracts.
- Signage, awards, equipment, and accreditation purchases.
- Handles logistics for USA Swimming Championship events, including but not limited to:
- Arrangement and management of event accommodations,
- Transportation services.
- Assists with all aspects of sports presentation production during championship events to include venue layout and event set-ups.
- Provides information and assistance pertaining to event operations to internal and external customers.
- Manages volunteer groups at national events.
- Provides information and assistance pertaining to event logistics to internal and external customers.
- Directly communicate event program details with athletes, parents, and coaches.
- Provides assistance and support to the organization with non-technical events including the Annual Business Meeting (ABM), Golden Goggles Awards show, and various committee meetings.
- Travels frequently, to complete site visits or manage national events.
Other Duties:
- Under the direction of the Director, National Events, provide administrative support to the National Officials Committee and officiating members of USA Swimming.
- Support USA Swimming Operational Committees as needed.
- Serves in additional administrative roles as assigned.

Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in sports management, marketing, related field, or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working in event planning/operations.
- Experience working within the following areas preferred:
- Sport event management.
- Group hotel sales and reservation procedures.
- Purchasing and procurement.
- Budget management.
- Demonstrated ability to lead volunteer groups.
- Familiarity with online performance database systems preferred. Must be able to learn technology systems within the first 6 months.
- Understanding and/or experience of National Governing Bodies structures, roles, and objectives in relation to the Olympic Movement and athlete relations preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to travel, both domestically and internationally, up to 25% of the year.
- Must be able to lift twenty-five (25) pounds.
- This position works in an office setting in the USA Swimming headquarters office in Colorado Springs, CO; must be willing to relocate to Colorado Springs, CO, or the surrounding area.
Salary & Benefits:
- Salary range for this position is $58,656 - $60,000 annually.
- Bonus Eligibility: Based on company performance, this position may be eligible for an annual bonus target of 5.00%.
